**UC San Diego Class of 2025 Discussion**

You should opt into the waitlist now. You only submit an SIR if you are admitted off the waitlist.

You cannot SIR if you are waitlisted. You opt into the waitlist, get excited about your other acceptances and SIR to another school by May 1. If a large amount of admitted students decline their acceptances before May 1 and spots open up, then the waitlisted students will start to be notified. In general, the waitlist decisions start after May 1.

My son loved ERC and the GEā€™s which focus on Making of the Modern Worldā€¦itā€™s hard but he really loved it! He just finished his last quarter at UCSD yesterday and is graduating in June! Good luck to you!

i got into my second choice major, can I appeal for the first?

I have some waitlist data posted in the Waitlist discussion here: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/t/ucsd-class-of-2025-waitlist-discussion

The # of waitlisted applicants has increased over the last few years and the # admitted varies from year to year. Last year, the UCā€™s admitted many students from the waitlist probably due to studentā€™s taking Covid Gap years. No way to know how many are waitlisted this year but check out the #'s for 2019. No data for last year or 2018 on the common dataset.

I got rejected for bio but itā€™s ok theyā€™re only two spots higher on US news for bio than Davis. Best of luck to everyone itā€™s been a crazy year. Iā€™ll see you guys next year when I stress over my gfā€™s college decisions LOL

So your son was finally rejected to SLO? We have not checked the portal, but I assume my son also got rejected.

I donā€™t see any reasons why they made us wait until UC decisions came out. Maybe they wanted to see if those accepted kids will be still interested after the UC decisions. After this they thought they can start offering to those waiting kids. But the exact same can go back and haunt them. Once our kids get accepted to UCSD or other good schools, we couldnā€™t be careless about the acceptance from SLO. They lose the opportunity to enroll some smart kids.

D accepted OOS. Undeclared social sciences Roosevelt College.
Accepted at UCSB, UCD, UCSD, UofWI, UofIL, Northeastern, College of Charleston, Miami of OH
Waitlisted at UCLA
Denied at Vanderbilt
Waiting on Northwestern, U of Miami, William and Mary, Berkeley.

@Lululime, itā€™s in the Portal, click on the Financial Aid tab. If awarded itā€™s in that section

We are following your sonā€™s path. Funny it is almost synchronized. Just got rejections from SLO and UCLA as well. Accepted to UCSC. Waitlisted at UCI. Rejected by UCSB. We did not event apply to Berkeley or Davis.

Other school that we liked was Colorado School of Mines, but so expensive for OOS, so we kind of knew that we may not be able to afford.

We are local here at San Diego, so we can save money if he decides to go to UCSD.

Accepted to UCSD
Major: International Studies- Political Science
Roosevelt

OOS
on the portal I had forms and no major

I got accepted into UCSD for Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Materials Science and Engineering, however I donā€™t remember applying for the specialization. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know if it affects whether I can study ME without a specialization?

@langozango: A Mechanical Engineering student who chooses to take specific electives will be awarded with a specialization that will appear on their transcript and diploma. They may also note the accomplishment on their resume/CV, and employers may contact the department for verification if requested.

NOTE: Specializations are optional and students are only eligible for one specialization. (Students on a pre-FA19 academic plan will be automatically updated to the FA19 academic plan when they request to switch to a new ME major with specialization.)

Answer is no you do not have to do a Specialization.

Accepted as Undeclared at ERC. Imma change to Bioengineering. Idk how difficult that might be.

Son was accepted to UCSD from OOS.

Accepted: Colorado College, Univ. of CO Boulder
Rejected: Stanford, UCLA
Havenā€™t heard yet: Univ. of Southern California, UCB, Yale, UPenn, Cornell, Univ. of Rochester, Tufts, Boston College, NYU, Villanova, William and Mary
