@Lucky2012, I see. If I am understanding you correctly, you are saying a required course was not offered at your CCC or nearby. The UCs are usually fine with this, unless otherwise noted (such as Hass). If there are a huge number missing (say for engineering), it could put you at a disadvantage.
Definitely it is viewed very differently than someone who did not take a course that was available.
How is it going guys? Has anyone gotten any news from SD?
I just got accepted to UCSB, got the response on March 16th. Though I’m still pretty nervous about UCSD, it is definitely my favorite school!
Any news to any of you?
@lindyk8 I can see you’ve got plenty of experience regarding the subject. Would you give me your guess?
School: Santa Barbara City College (Used to be one of the schools with TAG)
Major: Econ
GPA: 3.45
IGETC: YES
Pre-requisites: By Spring
Work Experience: 2 year internship by one of the biggest German companies on globe.
TAG: none
U - Link: No
Applied: UCSD, UCSB, UCB
Accepted: UCSB
Pending: UCSD, UCB (Though, I didn’t even complete the update required by Berkeley because I wouldn’t stand a chance, so I sort of let it go and focused on San Diego and Santa Barbara)
I’ve read a lot of threads from previous years from people with lower GPAs getting in or being waitlisted (most, if not all, got in afterwards). How do you think I should consider the perspectives ?
@tonystark93 Hmm I cannot speak for you but I think you should stick with it. As long as you pass with a C or better, which I think you will, it’s going to help you. The admissions is not going to take account of your current semester’s grades anyway.
@lindyk8 You’re awesome! I too was steered in the wrong direction by CCC counselors which ended up costing me a year, so I’m glad there are people like you that actually take the time to do their research and help current and future applicants stay on the right track.
@andom111 , lol. Yeah, I don’t like to give counselors a bad name because of budget cuts, and the fact that really, the UCs have made it so convoluted in some areas. It takes a lot of man hours sometimes to find stuff out. But between you and me, there are a few that do appear to be phoning it in.
I read a while back the UC is thinking of trying to streamline the process. They really should.
@sliceoflife24 @TonyStark Not true about completing all cal classes, if you look up assist.org and your major it will tell you the requirements you need to meet before applying to UCSB. I’m also an econ major and I only completed business calculus and macroecon and microecon and I got accepted to UCSB, with TAG.
@sliceoflife24 @TonyStark93 Actually my bad, I forgot this was UCSD thread. For econ you need to complete Cal 1 and Cal 2 and Cal 3 for an econ major and business cal does not meet UCSD econ requirements to get in. I’m in the same boat. Luck luck though!
