UC Santa Cruz Admissions 2017

Just a few more hours. Is there a group me for UCSC?

My decision came out earlier than they stated. Accepted with 3.54 UW GPA and 29 ACT. I dont see anywhere indicating what major i was accepted for.

@rjm232: UCSC admits into the University first and then if you meet a specific academic threshold into your major. You have until end of Sophomore year to declare a major.

“Proposing” a major is simply indicating an interest in a major. “Declaring” a major is a more formal process that you go through with your department or major adviser. If you listed a major on your UC application, it initially shows as a “proposed” major in the MyUCSC portal (you may have updated this with your college adviser since filing your admission application). Students can update their proposed major online. Students who enter UCSC as frosh are expected to confirm their proposed major by the end of their first year, and be formally declared in a major by the end of their second year (or equivalent). Students who enter UCSC as junior transfers are required to be declared by the deadline in their second term of enrollment.

You do not need to wait until your second year (or second term, for transfer students) to declare. You can (and should!) declare a major as soon as you’ve decided and met the major’s qualification requirements and/or prerequisites.

Researching a major’s requirements early is important, so that you can be sure to take the necessary classes to both meet the major’s qualification requirements and to confirm your interest in and ability to succeed in the major.

@Gumbymom
Thank you for explaining that UCSC allows students to declare major by end of sophomore. Can we however assume for now that a student has been admitted to his/her applying school?

I thought I would get in :expressionless:

@tintinhope. If the major is listed in his portal, then it has been accepted into the major. If not then he needs to declare the major as follows:

Admission to the computer science majors is selective. Admission to the major is based on the grades received in all foundation courses (see below) attempted at UCSC and will be considered no sooner than the student’s second quarter. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.80 in these courses is required for declaration of computer science majors (Computer Science B.S. and Computer Science B.A.). At most one unsuccessful attempt (grade C-, D+, D, D-, F, or NP) for a foundation course is permitted. In addition to this GPA requirement, after the first three quarters, students must have completed all of the foundation courses (listed below) in order to be eligible to declare a computer science major. Denials of admission to the major may be appealed by submitting a letter to the School of Engineering Undergraduate Office, addressed to the Computer Science Undergraduate Director, describing why the prior performance is not an accurate reflection of the student’s potential. Students who are informed that they are not eligible to declare the major may appeal this decision by submitting a letter to the department chair within 15 days from the date the notification was mailed. Within 15 days of receipt of the appeal, the department will notify the student, college, and Office of the Registrar of the decision.
