UC Santa Cruz or Cal Poly Pomona??

So I got into UCSC and Cal Poly Pomona for biology. I've been wanting to go to UCSC for the longest time but it also really like Cal Poly Pomona because it seems more convenient money wise and it's closer to home.

Is it better to go to UCSC or Cal Poly Pomona for majoring in biology?

Since when did being close to home become a benefit to young people? :-S I am not shaking my head at you as this has come up a couple of times. I would pick UCSC. I would love to be in that atmosphere for 4 years. I find CPP area quite dull in comparison.

I think you will have more opportunity to do research at UCSC which could be quite valuable for you as a bio major. There are funds available for student research projects and department scholarships available too. Do you know what you want to do with your bio degree yet? UCSC has Human Bio or Molecular and Cell Bio.

Not to say that research isn’t available at CPP, it is.

Are you taking about an 8k difference per year? Would your parents pay it?

I am really close to my parents and I’m scared I’ll get too homesick, haha yeah I know it’s lame.
I am hoping to make my way to marine biology. I’m not 100% sure that’s why I chose general bio. At CPP I would only pay 7k and I am not sure about UCSC because they haven’t put out their financial aid information yet:/ I would have to take out loans to pay for the rest because my parents can’t really contribute much.

Unless UCSC makes them cost close to the same, CPP it is. UCSC isn’t isn’t worth $15k+ (room, board and the UC premium on tuition) more than CPP. Particularly if you have to borrow the money.

agreed. biology is biology anywhere in the country.
