UC Santa Cruz Transfer Decisions 2013

@Pacioso Do you have a good shot at Berk?

I applied there as well I think my chances are very slim, but its the only school that could tempt me away from UCSC.

I used to attend UCSC my freshmen year 2010-2011, if you guys have any questions about SC let me know. I’d be glad to answer any questions. I got 4 pending UC applications for transfers this fall, figured I’d swing by here and be some help

@SCUCSC Why are you transferring?

I was forced to withdraw due to financial issues at the end of summer 2011. Since then I’ve been attending 2 local OC community colleges so i can get my financial priorities in order and get back to a UC ASAP. I’ve decided to stay local to the SoCal area, so i applied to all the local CSU/UCs

@SCUCSU What is the one thing you miss about UCSC?

I miss the actual school itself, and the opportunities it opened up for me. After attending a CC, it made me realize how fortunate I was to attend a UC straight out of HS. I was putting in work my first 3 qtrs, and knocked out a bunch of Math, Econ, and English courses. For the last 2 years, i’ve been pretty much working my way back up to where i was originally. I do miss being at a college, the “feel” is different. I drive in traffic to both the CCs i attend here and totally takes away from the college “feel”, for me at least. I don’t really linger around campus now, and talk to many people like I’d do in SC. Santa Cruz is a beautiful area, i missed it so much i actually went back up during winter break. Felt like I never left the damn place, it was just more congested in terms of cars and people than i remember.

Gotta miss the people you met as well. Still stay in contact with several people that i met during my first year, and saw them during January.

mrandall - I think I have a good shot at Cal. I have all the prereqs completed for my major (physics) with a 4.0, IGETC, related jobs and activies, etc. But at this point I’m thinking about choosing a place where I really want to live and would be happy - not just going to a school for its prestige. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Bay Area and Berkeley, but Santa Cruz is just too amazing for me to not seriously consider it. And plus, there’s always grad school.

Why do you think that Berkeley would be better for you if you were accepted?

@SCUCSC I’m glad to hear you didn’t have any negative feelings about it, sad you had to withdraw and yeah I think going to a CC makes you much more appreciative.

@Pacioso Yeah it seems you have a very solid chance at Cal. I did not mean to sound as if I would go to Cal if I got in, I just meant its the only school I would consider at all. When I visited SC I felt at home, Ive been to a lot of schools around here and they just don’t have that feel at all. I’d fly out to Berk and see how I felt and maybe if it had that same feeling. The other issue with Berk is that I’d probably have to take 3 more years to graduate and it would be much more stressful. In the end I’d probably end up at SC anyways haha.

@SCUCSC

I was just curious about the school’s mascot, the banana slug. Do you find the actual banana slug in campus all the time? = =|||

@andrenvq57

The banana slug is actually hard to find in my experience. The campus itself is huge, and is mostly forest than actual architecture. My first qtr, a buddy and I went hiking around campus, followed some of the trails. After about an hour out there we saw our first banana slug!! They aren’t something you see on a daily basis, but if you go out and explore the forest, you’re bound to run into something. You won’t wake up one day and find a banana slug in your dorm, not to worry

Three more days!

Are decisions going to be released on Saturday night (at midnight, marking the beginning of Sunday, the 17th), or on Sunday night (at midnight, marking the beginning of Monday, the 18th)? Seems that Monday would be the day.

"In just a few days, we’ll be releasing our admission decisions. Beginning at midnight on March 17, you will be able to view your decision on the MyUCSC portal at my.ucsc.edu, according to the following schedule based on the first letter of your last name (all times below are Pacific Daylight Time):

A - C beginning at 12:00 a.m.
D - G beginning at 1:00 a.m.

H - K beginning at 2:00 a.m.

L - N beginning at 3:00 a.m.

O - S beginning at 4:00 a.m.

T - Z beginning at 5:00 a.m."

Hm, you may be right which would make me quite sad… I’m not sure which is which. Doesn’t midnight mark the start of a new day?

Usually Santa Cruz give decision pretty much at the end of dead line( experience from couple of years from now) so as Santa Barbara.

I’m pretty sure it’s Sunday at midnight.

I would think it is actually Saturday night at midnight because that is when Sunday technically starts. UCR’s first decisions were posted at midnight of the night before. If they started at Sunday at midnight, that would technically be the 18th, so I don’t think that makes sense.

I think you are right Chelsie. For one it says 12:00 AM which its acknowledging a new day also, on the myucsc website itself it says “We will begin posting out decisions on the portal on March 17 according to the first letter of your last name in the following time blocks”. That seems to me that it would saying that all time blocks would occur during March 17th.

Either way it starts in 3 hours or 27 hours, so close!

And my last name starts with an A! Ahhh.

Either way, I’m most likely not going to attend UCSC if I get accepted. I’ll leave a spot for one of you guys who really want to go. :)

@larinaga Are you staying up until midnight? If so please tell us if you get any news!

I am not going to wait up until 4 am, especially if I am not even certain if its the right day haha.

Definitely! I’ll write my stats on here if my admission decision changes, or if it doesn’t change.

Haha! I’m like a vampire, so I’m always up until 3-4 am. Good luck!
