UC schools...Florida resident chances?

My son has applied to UC-Santa Barbara; UCLA and UC-Santa Cruz. After reading these threads, I think he's doomed.

ACT - 34
SAT -2340
SAT subject 630 and 670.

3.5 unweighted
4.2 weighted.

4 years Varsity BB starter, NHS, Spanish club. AP scholar, National Merit Commended student.

We live in Florida. Does he have any chance at all of getting into these school, or should I break out the kleenex?

Erm, I'd be surprised if UCSC/UCSB rejected him, even though he's out of state. UCLA seems possible.

Do you really want to pay $40K for 5 years? He may get in, they love high scores, but will get no aid.

Thanks for your input. The more I read, I'm learning that UC schools don't embrace out of state applicants too much. Anyone know why that is?

bobby100, I'm not paying for it. He made a decision to take out student loans, if he's lucky enough to get in.

Diana, he needs to think really hard about spending that much money for college. If he can get into those schools OOS, you can get into many colleges that will be a much better deal.

high test scores and low gpa makes it seem like he is a slacker... NOT GOOD

The reason is that California is mandated to save most of it's space and aid for it's tax payers.

UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)
UCSB: Safe Match (out of state)
UCSC: Safety (out of state)
