I got an email today telling me that I have to take the exam in may. I think that if u scored a 680 or above on the writing portion of the SAT, you are exempt. I scored a 690, 680 and 650 (my overall highest sat was this one). Am I supposed to be exempt… what should i do?

did you pass the AP English test (either?) those also exempt you.

Is it possible that 650 was your score for the writing portion?

I got the same email too, but on the ucla website (http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/NewBruins/AWPR.htm), it says we can be exempt "by earning a grade of C or better in a transferable college-level course in English Composition". So if I take English classes at local community college over the summer, do I still have to take this test? Is this test still mandatory?

its a simple test just take it. jeash

I haven't heard of this. What happens if you don't pass it? Or is it just for placement in an English class?

I heard if you don't pass it, you will be placed in ELD English courses, and you have to take it until you pass. (note: each test costs $65)

What is ELD?

i think you'll be a semesster behind in english unti you past?

English Language Development. It's another word for ESL (English as Second Language)

you need a 680 or higher on the SAT I writing to be exempt or a 3,4,5 on an AP English test.

Nin.................

Ok, I called UCI today and they said that I am exempt but that the reason that I got the email was because the system did not accept the new SAT writing score yet. So everyone else who got that email and has high enough SAT scores shouldn't worry.

high enuff meaning above 680?

680 Or Above On The Writing Portion Of The Sat Reasoning Test :-)

if you don't pass it, you're REALLY bad at writing and probably need those remedial classes anyways. Not to be harsh or anything but the essay is ridculously easy and graded on a low standard. Don't worry about it.
