UC to UC transfer chances??

Hello there,

I’m currently entering into my sophomore year at UCSC as a Bioengineering major wishing to transfer to other UC’s for Chemical engineering or Materials engineering. Was wondering if anyone has done something similar to this in the past and could give me some advice/chance me? Stats are as follows:

GPA:

fall quarter:

writing class: B+
calc 2: B+
Chem 1A: B+
GE: A+

(I know this isn’t so hot, the first months of college were a difficult adjustment)

winter quarter:

Chem 1B: A-
Calc 3 (part 1): A
Chem lab: A+
GE: A+

spring quarter:

Chem 1C: A-
Chem lab: A
Calc 3 (part 2): B+

summer session:
Linear algebra: A+

total GPA: 3.67, major gpa is probably higher

With this in mind, I’m planning on completing the rest of the prereq’s this upcoming year. The challenge is that different schools have different prereqs (UCSB wants a class dedicated to MATLAB, ect. Do I need to complete every single prereq that they want in order for me to transfer/get in??? What if certain classes aren’t offered at my school?

Additional comments:

  • I have many leadership positions on campus, am involved in a club, will have pretty good essays, have awards and such from high school.
  • Also, I am making it clear to the schools that I want to transfer because my desired major is not offered at my current school (will this help my chances?).

Finally, the schools I wish to apply to are UCI (my top choice), UCSB (tied with UCI), UCSD, UCLA, Cal Poly SLO, UCD

Any advice would be very helpful, as I really really want to go to one of these schools for these degrees. Thanks!

Take a look at the current UC to UC transfer thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1838835-2016-uc-to-uc-transfer-thread.html#latest

I am sure posters in this thread could help you with your questions.

with a 3.67 and the right classes, you should have no trouble transferring to UCiI/D/SB. The others could go either way.

Generally, the pre-reqs are are real gates but, contact your target school for guidance.

assist.org may also help mapping classes.

Very helpful, thank you both of you! At times reading those forms can be very disheartening, as many engineering majors get rejected if they miss just one pre-req (even with stellar gpa’s).
