major GPA is definitely should be more important...no doubt

major gpa, its what they calculate when you apply

FM...theres is NO on campus housing for transfers to SD and from wat i hear there isnt UCSD apts either. so u gotta find ur own place.

Welcome to UCSD New Undergraduate Housing!
A two-year guarantee of campus housing is available for new incoming freshmen admitted for Fall 2005.
It is essential to meet all deadlines in order to be assured a space on campus.

this sucks..:(:( what about us, the transfers?

us... we get to be on the waitlist! whee...

i read somewhere that none of the UCSD transfers on the housing waiting list got on campus housing. off campus housing shouldn't be too bad, right? there's free shuttle service for students, if that's any consolation...

i'm thinking they'll have information about housing on transfer admit day. all transfers have to sleep somewhere, right?

Yah, going to an apt. is somewhat of a problem...I do want to live in the dorms. Everyone is recommending me to do that since that's the best way to experience college life, make new friends, and have fun. I have a few friends at UCSD...but would they share an apt with me...I don't know. I don't like the idea of going to an apt. with someone I don't know. I rather live on campus the first year and move to an apt. with someone I knew. I'm calling some UCSD rep's tomorrow to see what they say.

UCLA might solve my problem...but yet...I'm worried if the environment will be like Cal (extremely competitive)? Ayy!

UCSD doesn't have housing for transfer students at all, it's not even an option. Bah... My biggest worry (if I get in) is the PRICE of living in La Jolla!

aww man, so UCSD doesn't have housing? oh my god. I am longing for a socal coed!

I've noticed that some people applied to different campuses with different majors. How did you handle that with the first essay specifically having you talk about your major (sent to every campus)? Just curious, because I had always planned to apply with a different major at one of the schools I applied to, but I abandoned that idea after I saw the essay prompts.

The average rent ranges from 600-800 a month with roommate of course.

I just realized how miniscule the difference between a 4.0 and 3.7 is when you apply.

I have all A's except for B+ in an Hnrs. Composition class, a C in second level Spanish, and a B in an Astronomy class.

The B+ was because my teacher was super liberal and all our topics were about Iraq, patriot act stuff, etc., and I wasn't super liberal and don't really believe in tending to other peoples opinions.

The C in Spanish was because that semester I had chronic bronchitis out of nowhere for several weeks and actually dropped all my classes except that one class because well i just went to the class on exam days pretty much.

And finally, I got a B+ in Astronomy, off by five points from an A-, becuse i just didn't really feel like studyin that hard that one night for the final. 5 points is 2 and a half questions out of a total of about 200 for midterm and final.

I have a total of 45 units completed, with a 3.72 gpa now.

If I just pandered to an eng teacher for an essay or two, got two more questions right on that astro final, and went to spanish class with some degree of attendance had i not beek sick, id be lookin at a 4.0, or if I even pulled a B in spanish, a 3.92.

Now that puts me in such a better situation than a 3.7, but the circumstances arent extremely different, just slightly.

I find that really, really, really frustrating to consider right now. Really. anybody else have similar situations? post.

got into ucsb today--3.15 history major!!!

congrats cc is prison, my friend went to ucsb and was a history major. he just graduated last spring. He got in with a 2.9 i think.

Intel4WepofMassAdmissions,

Yea, I'm in a similar situation. Well when I first started taking classes at my CC I ended having to take prep-courses since I wasn't up to par with the standards (even though I did well in my English 4 class in high school). The next semester I lost my car due to an accident I had on the way home from work so I only took one class in the spring...basically I wasted one year =/. In the summer, of course, I kicked ass taking 4 classes while concurrently holding a part time job working 24 hours/week. Again, this was all in the summer! You can imagine how much drive and determination I built up to be able to do this. Well I ended up with 3 A's and 1 B, the B I received from an online art history class so that is understandable. Next the worst happened. I wouldn't say that I worked my ass off but I defintely didn't screw around. Well, I ended up with a C in my Pre-Calc class. Don't ask me how, frankly speaking I suck the big one at mathematics. Now this REALLY hurt my GPA bringing me down to a 3.5 =/. I decided to xfer to Santa Monica College because I heard that UCLA favored these students moreover than other CC students, particularly because it has some generous treaty signed between the two (not literally). I took two classes for the winter session and got A's in both. Spring session is in progress and I'm worried about keeping up my GPA! I need at least a 3.8 GPA to prove myself a worthy candidate to UCLA's reputation! I currently hold a 3.65 GPA and after this semester I should have a 3.74 GPA, after summer a 3.76 GPA!!! I'll be finished with my 60 credits by Fall 05' but with the extra time (semester) I'll end up having close to 70 units and hopefully a 3.8X GPA.

out of the three colleges that i've heard back from so far, only ucsb has sent me an actual letter. has anyone received anything from uci or ucsd in the mail? i understand if i don't receive anything from sd for a few more days, but it's been two weeks since uci accepted me..

i have received a letter from uci but not ucsd

I recieved from UCSD.

I got one from UCD, UCSB, UCSC (although I don't understand how they only provided me about two sheets of paper). UCSD hasn't sent me anything or I just haven't checked my mail box recently :-P.

I'm glad to see that there are other people out there as nervous about transfering as me. I've applied to UCLA and UCB as a History major.
Has anybody heard from UCLA yet? I talked to somebody on the phone there and they said they would start rolling out decisions around the middle of april.
Are there any history majors here? If so, what are your stats.
Here are mine:
GPA: 3.86, IGETC completed, no EC's, but I am a verteran with 6 years active duty, All of the Major prereqs will be completed for UCLA by this semester, For Berkeley, I will have completed all but one. I'm comming from Pasadena City College...
Good luck everybody, and write back please :-))

now that we're in between hearing from UCSD and UCLA/UCB....isn't the wait much worse. Is it me, or is this anxiety and obsession the only thing that lingers throughout my head ALLLLLL DAY, even during the night. Its HORRIBLE, i even wake up thinking about it. the anxiety is killing me! JUST TELL US. lol, u know they're sitting there with almost all their decisions made. and you know that THEY know that we are all sitting here like hungry dogs checking every day. In fact, theres probably someone in the office looking at this forum :) oh well though, best of luck to everyone. and congrats to everyone that's gotten in to different schools.
