Hrm, I was reading about letters of recommendations thing and they said that they dont accept nor do they read them....unless they asks for it... I think.. Im actually not too sure about that as I think about it.. haha.

I'm wondering if I should even bother with EC's. I think I have more life experience than the average transfer, being 24 years old and serving 4 years in the Marine Corps. What do you guys think, should I still try to get some EC's into my application?

i am already done w/ my personal statement! yey!

tastybeef- why are you planning to transfer from Cal to SD?

I'm primarily trying to transfer to UCSD for the bioengineering major.

the other day i asked my counselor about the letter of recommendation, and he said that they dont ask for it and that if you send it they dont even look at it, so there is no point.
But i forgot to ask him, and you guys might know the answer to it.......can we write about the volunteer work we did in high school or the clubs we were in. Or do we only write things that what we did in college??

tastybeef- Cal doesn't have bioengineering major?

sweet- try to write about the things that you experience during college.

It does, but it's pretty much "applied biology" at this point in time. UCSD has a much more coherent bioengineering program.

Speaking of TAP, I heard El Camino College is starting a pilot program for what could be a new Berkeley TAP program... darn... I chose the wrong CC to apply my studies at. haha.

YAY for Philosophy Major, best of luck to you all!!

***, Damn you Cal. I finished my Tap but only UCLA looks into it. I only Wish Cal consider my TAP.

cc88- are you serious? i gotta check it out! lol!

why on earth would that be the first CC that cal would have a tap program with?

thats a little too random to be true...

if berkeley were to have such a program, berkeley city or dvc would be the first...or you'd think so...

...but too bad neither Berkeley City nor DVC doesnt have it... :[[[[

I don't believe that El Camino will be the only CC that applies this program. You may want to check it out and ask the counselors at your schools. I'm just telling you what a counselor at El Camino told me.

yes! im ganna check it out today!

It's true from what i've found using google. Apparently, ucb is expanding its tap program (simliar to ucla's tap program but only found northern cal .. there's no list of northern cal cc's) to los angeles, and other areas, with the help of a $1 million grant. Ceritos college and el camino college are two of seven cc's in the los angeles area. that means there are 5 more left to find!

Is Berkeley going to have the TAP in the Northern California area?

I am actually in the Berkeley Transfer Alliance Project! I posted something about it awhile back. It is much different than the Transfer alliance Program with UCLA. The Berkeley TAP does not give you priority consideration when it comes to admission but students participating in the program will meet with Berkeley representatives that give each student one on one counseling and are always available if the student needs to contact them regarding any issue there might be. They also help you with filling out the application and help you write the personal statement. I am from the Southern California section of the TAP program and they sent around thirty So Cal members up to Berkeley for an all expense paid trip that was super cool. There actually is a seminar on Sep 15 for So Cal TAP members where Berkeley representatives are going to help the TAP students with the new UC personal statement. There is a catch to the program though. It is not like UCLA TAP where you join the Honors program at you CCC and complete requirements and you are in the TAP program. The Berkeley Transfer Alliance Project is only for high achieving low income, first generation and underrepresented students. If you want to get in the program you have to talk to the So Cal Berkeley rep and then you have to fill out an application to get accepted to the program. They will ask for your Parents or guardians income statement to make sure that you qualify as a low to moderate income student and if you do not qualify there is a good chance you will not get in the program. And to motul most of the Berkely TAP programs are in Northern California. If there are any questions about the Berkeley TAP program I would be more than happy to do my best to answer them!
