Hi there!
I’m planning on transferring from UCR to UCSB or UCSD as a computer science major.
My GPA is currently a 3.58 after my first year. If I can raise it to a 3.66 after next fall’s quarter, would I have a good chance of making one of these schools? Also, would my grades in next winter’s quarter help my application?
I will be able to complete all of the prereqs in time, and might be able to finish my GE’s for the Letter of Reciprocity.
According to https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
UCSD has a slightly higher admit rate. But, this is for CCC students, so it’s a bit hard to calculate.
Considering you would have all pre reqs you would still have a hard time competing with CCC students because they get priority. Grades up to winter will count when UCs ask for a UTA/TAU (Update transfer application).
Since I have no data on UC-UC admit rates, I can only estimate 20% chance with your GPA being at 3.66 (which isn’t all that bad considering it’s CS at mid tier UC). Don’t count on my estimates though.
Don’t be discouraged, hope for the best.
Check with the UCs you are considering to make sure the reciprocity counts. Reciprocity may only count for majors in the college of Letters & Science, not Engineering. I’m not sure. But its not really a big deal, at most it is likely you’d only need one or two classes at your xfer UC. You could look online to see what those 2 schools require for GE and see if their is a way to take all the equivalent courses at UCR.
