UC Unit Limitation

So I was recently admitted to UC davis for the Fall 18 semester, but opted not to attend (yet) primarily to save money. I originally intended that I would work and continue taking classes and later reapply for the Fall 19 semester. However, I am currently at 56 units and will reach 68 units by the end of this semester (Spring 18). I wanted to TAG for math to UC davis as I would have taken (and hopefully passed) differential equations in the fall 18 semester which would be the only class I need to TAG under math. However, from what I understand, there is a UC unit limitation of 70 units. With the classes I have planned for the next 2 semesters, I would roughly be at 90 units. If I reach this amount of units, does that mean I can no longer apply to a UC school or submit a TAG? I’ve also only attended california community colleges and have not done any upper division work. Thank you all for the help!

The 70 unit limit is the number of units of lower division non UC transfer credit units you will get after transfer. You will get subject credit for all courses as listed on assist.org . Because of the 70 unit limit, you are not at risk of the unit limit to apply unless you have upper division units or UC units (all community college courses are lower division).

This confuses me as well. My son has 43 units thus far at a CCC and recently decided to major in Materials Science/Engineering (or Applied Physics if the UC doesn’t have MatSci).

But after adding up his unmet major prerequisites and GE requirements, he figures it will put him well over 90 units total.

How will that work out when transferring to a UC (he’s aiming for UCSC at present)? :-o
