UCB and UCLA chance?

Out of state and outside of U.S. (Canada)

SAT 1910 CR:600 M:660 W:650 (Planning to retake it again, probably around at 1850-1950 range)

Grade: never calculated GPA but 90+ for all 3 sciences (98 in bio and 95 in mando) and mandarin, 80 and 75 for history and english. lowest is tok and math at around 70. Currently in the IB Diploma program
Bio, english, and History are HL courses.

EC/Awards: Principal list 5 times, honour roll every term since grade 8, math certificate for some contest for being in top 25%, Community centre service (4 years), Recycling club, MUN club (3 years), Community events, Student Council for one term, leadership programs in gr 10, etc.

Others: I have experienced quite a bit: almost attempted suicide and started a golfarming business (can I even mention this?) as well as SEO business so I can probably whip up a really moving essay with the help of tutors. Really interested in history and sciences as well as computers.

Also worked in a massage centre washing towels and stuff for 3 years as well.

I believe my chances are around 25-40% but I'm wondering what you guys think, thanks.

Your chances are NOT at around 25-40%. UC Berkeley’s average international chances are at 14-15%, and those are with scores of 2100+. Your GPA is unimpressive. Achievements earlier than 8th grade do not count (honor roll? meh). Unimpressive EC’s. And yeah, if you mean “gold farming” as in a game gold business, it won’t look impressive. Your scores are too low, and you don’t have any AP’s (although they will look over that since you’re from Canada) or SAT IIs (they say they don’t require it, but remember, almost all applicants show them). You have 1 test date left (Nov.).

Even though your essays may be “really moving,” they won’t “counteract” your GPA or test scores. But write them as well as you can, and try not to use tutors. Colleges can tell.

I don’t know where you get the audacity to give yourself a 40% chance with those scores and EC’s. UCB is high reach for you at 5-10%.

EDIT: You are not an out-of-state student. You are international. This means that, unfortunately, UC’s cannot offer you ANY financial aid. You will have to pay full-tuition.

Both are reaches unfortunately

Judging by your name, I assume you’re talking about a Runescape goldfarming business. Just did a quick google search. Do you actually think that performing illegal microtransactions and selling something that you don’t own will look good? No, it will only have you brought up on charges to talk about that. I don’t know much about Canadian law, but as far as the United States go, abuse of someone else’s copyrighted material like that would land you in prison faster than you could yell “Capitalist dogs!”

Berkeley INTL: Out of Reach.
UCLA INTL: Out of Reach.

You made a really quick reference to suicide. If you’re still experiencing thoughts like this, I think that the first thing you need to do is seek help for that. College applications and school is very stressful on its own. If you have serious depression or something else like that bothering you, that needs to be your first priority. Consider a gap-year admissions deferral to wherever you go.
