@araian i think it all depends on how many ppl left on the list. No one knows if All Appealer in or some got removed. We can only count here at cc or reddit.
This is so dumb. They just sent a correction email saying that they still haven’t made decisions and are putting it off until the end of the month.
Just to clarify, if we were on the waitlist they wouldn’t have sent a correction email. All that is saying is that they haven’t made a decision on appeals yet really.
I actually disagree. On the correction email it says
“ We referenced anticipating notifying all students their waitlist status by the end of June 2020. This also applies to students who submitted an appeal to their admissions decision.“
Meaning that waitlist status ALSO applies to us. Idk that’s how I interpreted it??
Also the way the email is formatted with “if space becomes available you’ll be considered” REALLY sounds similar to that of a waitlist email.
So you think every appealer was on the waitlist? That sounds impossible to me.
In my opinion, I believe that us appealers are on some waitlist independent from the other waitlist.
"…This also applies to students who submitted an appeal to their admissions decision.“, from this line, it showed, all applealers had this note. And we will be under consideration if space becomes available. AO has its own way to pick. At this late in the game, we just pray we can get in I will stay hope till i get clear answer. Sounds silly, right! And thx everyone to be with me. true love to Berk.
So looking at Reddit and this thread, there are definitely people who got in off of appeals, and the rest got put on this “waitlist for appealers”. Does this mean they read our appeals and pretty much “rejected” us? ;-;
@Enalam i think if there are intl students who can’t get visa, or take gap year if online for coming fall semester, then we have some chance, but ppl said, there are 900 avg students per year appeal. (i knew last year 925 appealers)
Yo so posting on a thread is slow and boring. @collegeappacc and I made a discord to discuss this stuff faster. Click on my username and message me so I can send u the link to the discord.
I don’t think that every appeal student has a chance of getting accepted, to be honest. There’s most likely appealers with like 1100 SAT scores and average extracurriculars. I’m pretty sure that it’s a precaution, but they’d probably turn to offering other rejected kids acceptances before they offer every appealed admission.
i don’t think that the email was a rejection email. if it was a rejected email it would’ve been more forward. because of the circumstances right now, there are obviously going to be people who decide to withdraw and go to a different school so ucb has created a separate waitlist for backup. some people who appealed were automatically accepted because they were really good, others were put into this waitlist, and there are definitely going to be people rejected. usually these things come in waves. for example, ucsb sent out a wave of acceptances and a wave of rejections. i was in the rejection wave because while people were getting accepting, along with others, i didn’t receive an email. i only received an email just recently. so i don’t think ucb would have around 900 people on their new waitlist.
@cjd114 i am not able to PM you. i would like to have to link. thx
The letter wasn’t a rejection letter because it would have been just as easy for them to send out a rejection letter.
But, also it didn’t convert all 900+ appealers to waitlist status. We’re just in a holding pattern.
They goofed up and sent an incorrect letter. Worst yet, they fail to be transparent and tell waitlist and appeal kids what is really going on. I could understand if a private university took that position but I had higher expectation from a public university funded by tax payers money. Why the secrecy?
@BBCCHS i pm’d u
@Iliketurtles47 makes a lot of sense. I don’t know how many people submitted appeals. Maybe 1000? We understand that UCB has a more holistic approach to admissions, but there must be some minimum threshold to even be considered. There is a significant number of students in the appeal pool who have already been eliminated based purely off of numbers.
yeah appeal numbers have always ranged from 900-1100 with acceptances ranging from 2%-5% in recent years.
This year is different though, because of all of the uncertainty. I believe that they did this due to anticipation of a lower enrollment turnout and maybe the possibility of Berkeley going online.
Still no news
i wouldn’t expect anything for now since they just sent us the email like a couple days ago
