I got into Berkeley off appeal last year! I had no idea the stats were that low. I didn’t really have any major new achievements or extenuating circumstances, I just wrote about why I wanted Berkeley and how I would contribute to the community. The truth is, admissions aren’t always foolproof, and they do occasionally make mistakes or change their minds. The odds are low, but if you can make a good argument it’s worth a shot! Good luck!
Hey does anyone know when the appeal decision could be out and whether or not we have a good chance getting in on appeal since things around the world are really hectic right now
appeals usually hear back on one of two dates. The accepted usually hear around mid may (last year I think it was on the 17th). The rejected will hear back on June 1st or May 30th. Appeal chances are PREDICTED to be higher this year as a result of decreased enrollment to UC Berkeley. However, the number of successful appeals will probably still remain below 10%. @Hendwom
Alright, I really hope it works out. Thank you for your help. @cjd114
I got off the UCLA waitlist. If the appeal for berk works, I don’t know where to commit it’s gonna be a hard decision because I’ve visited ucla but never cal. But i really like the type of people going to berk and not so much la
For my appealers:
https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/CC2019/plenary-and-campus-updates.pdf
you can scroll down to UCB and they should say the appeal stats! Hope this helps
Will our guys here receive our updates on the portal at the same time as the waitlist students do?
I am very curious as this year’s situation is extremely (???). Maybe the admission office will be benevolent to admit more from students who appealed. I just wish that. But who knows~
P.S. I have been watching the waitlist thread for 2020 for a long time, and they are so funny and talkative.?
Lucky for them.
Go bears!
If you were to “win” your appeal, are you accepted or would you be waitlisted? In other words is it a separate process?
kinda forgot I appealed here HAHA. not expecting it to go through but hey, if it works, it works, right?
I’ve been reading up on the UC Berkeley waitlist forum, and have seen that many apllicants believe that the waitlist is going to be used much more heavily this year. I wonder if this will also be the case of applicants who wish to appeal their rejections.
I read somewhere that whenever a UC goes heavily to their waitlist they also approve many more appeals. I think I read it from Ms. Sun. In other matters, does anyone here who appealed have a portal glitch? I wouldn’t assume so since the first appeal admits prolly wont come till late next week.
Thanks man that response was actually super helpful, and i’ve head about the FAQ glitch but I don’t seem to have it. I still only have one FAQ link
I don’t have that glitch either. But think about something. If you are going to be denied, they will still update your FAQ, right? So the glitch might mean you are going to be given a denial or approval.
P.S. I am just guessing. Don’t take it for granted. Use your time spending here to learn one more skill would make you mentally and physically richer.
i also got off the ucla waitlist. not sure what i would do if i got the appeal for berk
Well we aren’t going to know for another 9 days at least, so I would accept the UCLA offer for now and then think about withdrawing to attend Cal if your appeal is approved.
Thanks @Gumbymom I did not mention where I got admitted in the appeal letter.
For my appeal, I used up all 500 characters with “Go Bears!”
I’ll keep y’all updated on what happens.
@thianos hope you get in tbh haha
i also heard that ucla appeals and waitlist decisions came out very close in dates. however, berkeley is always late to the party in many cases. ive heard and read that a lot of people are losing interest in the school, so hopefully those still invested in berkeley get in ?
Berkeley generally approves around 30 appeals every year out of 1000. This year however will most likely be different. I am predicting (I have no basis for this other than info from the wait list thread) that more appeals will be accepted this year based on their lower yield. It is said that when more people are admitted via wait list at Cal, more are also admitted via appeal.
