@cjd114 Hi, do you happen to know if waitlists and appeals are projected to come around the same time like UCLA? In past years, appeals come out during the second wave of waitlist acceptances but with COVID-19, they may be rushing to get decisions out.
@lemyuh I believe appeal acceptances will be released 2 hours after the second wave of wait list decisions next Friday (this is in accordance with the past). I believe they will stick with their traditional time line, even in light of this pandemic, because all else in Berkeley matters has been following tradition thus far. This may actually be good for us, because that means the schools that are releasing wait lists early to gain yield (ex. UCLA) may take some students who were willing to go to Cal and instead these spots may be given to more wait lists or appeals.
First wave of Waitlists just came out. Many more IS students than OOS and International students. Many said that hours before their decision they had a FAQ glitch which took them to an Admitted Students FAQ rather than waitlist FAQ. Because UCB released the waitlist early, some believe that acceptances will be rolling out. If not, then the safest bet will be on Friday, late afternoon.
It is unlikely they come today even though the wait lists were released a few hours earlier than normal. Most likely next week. Godspeed.
So every here who appealed got your updates?
No I haven’t gotten an update. I believe they come out next Friday
Was anyone able to submit a LOR along with their appeal?
they don’t accept lor for appeals
this thread is very dead in comparison to ucla’s. does anyone know if appeals get an email to check their portal status or will we have to manually check our portal?
I think they will notify us if the decisions come out. After all, the students who appealed are always going to receive updates slower than students who waitlisted.
I think you know what I am talking about, right?
@redliter. Do any of the UCs provided a write-up describing the appeal process and how it works with the waitlist process. In other words, is there a priority list (first those on wait-list and then those on appeal). My guess is that the appeal process is entirely separate otherwise there are so many qualified persons on the waitlist that they’d never get to those who even win on appeal. I think those who win on appeal win acceptance and cut in line of those on waitlist. My rationale is that an appeal is not supposed to be a re-evaluation of the same facts. Rather it is to allow a student to correct mistakes (ie incorrect SAT scores submitted), mention new accomplishments worthy of noting, a life changing event, etc… My guess is the burden on appeal is high and something along the lines of "had we know this “additional and significant” fact at the time we were reviewing the application would we have accepted this person.
@Camlian Well, there is little description of the appeal process. As to the waitlist process, we usually write and send a “love letter” to the admission office to demonstrate your continuing interest in the College. Talking about the appeal, I think the only way to regain the officer’s attention is to submit the appeal essay on the website. I wouldn’t recommend you to send more emails to the admission office because that might make them feel ‘bothered’ unless you are really really excellent in academics and kind in your tones.
Appeal process is just like tossing three dices, and the rate of having three 6s is far higher than being admitted.
Anyway, waitlisters always the first, and then appealers the second.
When will decisions be out?
Friday is the expected date I beleive.
I got an email when I appealed acknowledging receipt of my appeal, but when I go to my application portal it doesn’t show a submitted appeal anywhere. Do any of you have an indication on your portal that you submitted your appeal?
Just go to the rejected students FAQ and scroll down to the appeal section and click on the link that takes you to where you submitted your appeal and you find it all there.
The general consensus is that wave 2 notices will be out next Monday or Tuesday. Not this Friday. That is because tomorrow is the deadline to respond to wave 1 acceptances, and the Admissions office needs time to sort out their plan for the second wave.
We are in a weird predicament here. Appeal acceptances always come a few hours after the second wait list wave (the final wave in past years). However, this year there is speculated to be 3 wait list waves. So I do not know if they will release appeals after the second wait list wave or the third and final wave.
Does anyone on this thread have the 4 address glitch?
