Yeah, UCLA is as low as U Michigan . . . if by that you mean that these two schools are two of the highest regarded public schools in the nation and world.

In the world. Right. Cal would fit that right on. We are ranked #2 in the world. I don't see UCLA being #2 or #1. So yea. Its just all hype that UCLA is that great. Throw the name away, compare things you CAN compare about schoools. It's not that great anymore.

If you really care about what others think of UCLA and UC Berkeley, I think the closest (or most objective) barometer or index of rating has to be the "peer evaluation" by the US News.

It is an accumulation of the ratings by deans, provosts, and other scholars around the nation.

According to the criterion alone, UC Berkeley is ranked #5 in the nation, and UCLA is #15.

Thus, solely based on this "peer evaluation" (perhaps academic reputaiton?), UC Berkeley is highly underrated at this point among the gossip circles, and UCLA is on a par with Dartmouth (I think).

Isnt Cal the best public school of all? Why is it "only" #2?

Leave qwerasdf alone, he just enjoys trolling...

I don't get it. How is qwerasdf trolling? He's just stating his opinion (right or wrong) and he's not hurting anyone, per se. If you don't like what he is saying, respond in a mature manner, not by name-calling...

An Internet troll is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. Now, call me crazy, but qwerasdf seems to spend the majority of his time here running to anyone with any aspirations for a UCLA career and start his game of, "UCLA is second rate! Woooo Cal!"

Now, if he actually offered sound reasons to choose Cal over UCLA (I'm more than sympathetic to such arguments, and agree with many of them) then I'd say, "great!" However, that's not the purpose of the previous posts. His purpose, I propose, is to incite argument and get the UCLA posters riled up so he can point and say, "aha! Cal is better!"

If anyone were to ask me what I think the reasons to go to Cal are, I'd say: More academic and intellectual atmosphere than UCLA, more fun college town, and probably a slight edge in grad school (not light years ahead, if you just look at sheer numbers.)

Whats important is that Cal and UCLA are both California Ivies.

Up here Cal will rein in UCSF. Down there in LA, you guys gotta rein in Cal Tech.

And then our California empire begins. Muahahaha!

Berkeley, UCLA, UCSF, Cal Tech. This is the inner council of the California Ivies.

stanford's never an ivy huh? not even a "california ivy"?

Personally, I'd consider the "California Ivies" to be:

Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, Cal Tech, and maybe Claremont McKenna.

UCSD will one day rise up, as I think USC will. Unfortunately, it will all be cut short by the attack of robot soldiers in order to get more votes for our Governator.

One of those two previous sentences is untrue. It's up to you to decide.

^ LOL!! You forgot UCSF. UCSF gets a lot of the patents that help pay for our UC Budget man. I say California stop paying all federal taxes immediately! We pay 60 Billion more than we get in return. GUESS HOW MUCH TEXAS PAYS? Pretty much zero.

California gets: 1999 - $.87 for every federal tax dollar spent
2003- $.78

Texas gets : 1999 - $.94 for every federal tax dollar spent
2003 - $.98

GEE I WONDER WHY?? Screw Bush! He stole 2000, and 2004.

http://uscountvotes.org/

D'oh! That's a mistake on my part, to be certain. Unfortunately, UCSF kind of just fades into the background because it doesn't have an undergrad program.

I should not make that mistake, however.

lol West Sidee, ur post reeks of cession...

anyways u gotta look at it from political perspective. i mean it IS a trend that we have been voting Dem for a long time now... so why would the Repub president ever in hell care more about Cali? thats just my two cents.

Not to be a jerk, but do you mean "secession?" "Cession" is where a state is ceded.

yes i was just checking.

"California gets: 1999 - $.87 for every federal tax dollar spent
2003- $.78

Texas gets : 1999 - $.94 for every federal tax dollar spent
2003 - $.98

GEE I WONDER WHY?? Screw Bush! He stole 2000, and 2004"

I agree! We californians are subsidizing those red states in their fight against education and reason

CMC over Pomona College? Mabye both, but few would say that CMC is a better school. Many, however, would say that they are on par. If you are going by reputation alone, then Pomona. There are other factors too, but i don't see why one would include cmc and not Pomona.

IT depends right? I don't k now what CMC and Pomona are good at, but I'm an engineer, so I applied for HMC. HMC > CalTech anyday.

WestSideee: Stop blaming Bush for California's crappy education. Blame Davis. Federal Aid for education is so tiny compared to state spending. Davis jacked our entire economy up, cooked the books, and left California overspending. Arnold HAS to make cuts right now because we're just spending way too much money. It's not that he's an idiot, we just HAVE to cut spending some way, and education will get cut although we all don't like it. Maybe that's why the UC system is not climbing as rapidly? I think a lot of the reasons WHY the UC system is so great is because of the excellent students. It's competetive to get in and to get out. I think teaching staff, professors, etc are ok, but not as great as they should be. That's obviously because we don't get enough funding.

BTW, to me the CA ivies are: StanFUrd, Cal, CalTech, Claremont Colleges (yes all of them.. HMC > CIT anyday).

StanFUrd is the Ivy of the west just like WUSTL is the Ivy of the midwest/south US.

^ qwerasdf

I would include UCLA, UCSD, and UCSF there too. Also, Arnold has gotta go. He participated in election fraud in Ohio. Most californians do not support taking away Black people's right to vote. See u later terminator!
