@CollegeMomCL2024 UCD is a solid school. But your child might not like the environment. It’s quite boring even for me. Nothing to do there unless you have a car to drive to Sacramento.
@kikiob very true … this is where the variability comes in … the essays … Plus different readers have a different take on how valuable the experience is. … for example, if you have an app that got 1000s downloads and one that sells to 1 one customer. Which experience is better? Free downloads or one that can sell?
Rejected for Computer Science

I got into UCSD for data science and I have good Out of States but I was worried that the Davis rejection meant I would get rejected from all the other UCs.

@CollegeMomCL2024 @nella2024: UCD can be as boring as you make it. My older son loved his time at UCD. Great small town feel, access to hiking/fishing nearby, the Capital corridor train to take into Berkeley or San Jose, but I agree that some will like it and some will not. Having a car after Freshman year would definitely help expand many other areas to explore especially San Francisco and Tahoe.
Unfortunately with all the Corona Virus issues, visiting might be an option before the SIR date. Every student needs to find their best fit.
@nella2024 are you a parent or a student? We just drove up to pick up our child who is a junior at UCD. There were tears everywhere. The kids are devastated to be leaving their school and community.
Most students at Davis get around by bike. It is an active, social, friendly and lively campus and college town with lots to do.
Agree. My daughter is also a junior and absolutely loves Davis, the school and the town. It’s a big school, but feels much smaller because the of the town–pretty much everyone who lives there is part of the university. We love visiting her and enjoy the walkable town. Will definitely miss it after she graduates.
@lkg4answers
Glad to hear that they are happy at Davis. Sad to hear they had to leave. I wasn’t even thinking my daughter would get accepted, and didn’t look into the school because it’s about 6 hours away. I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen and heard so far. My daughter isn’t a party animal anyway, she’s on the quiet side, so I don’t think she needs a ton of things to do. She can do that at home in LA. I’m just sad no physical tours.
Do we know when updates to financial aid will be available for admits?
@lkg4answers I am a parent. I am also a UCD alum. Make no mistake that I loved the people I met at UCD. I travel with them. We are friends for life! BUT I also know the situation there (BTW, I am not a party person). It’s a great place to study (I graduated in 3 years from EE, even with a 6m internship at IBM!) … I went home every weekend. It is just nothing much to do there. My neighbor’s kids also go there now. They complain too. So we are really not recommending it for our son.
Hi I’m new to this discussion but…
I got accepted for Chicano/Chicana studies
SAT: 1440
UC GPA: 4.27
7 AP/Honors
President of 4 Clubs
Lots of volunteer work
I was invited into the Honors Program and I wanted to know if anyone has any info on this program and knows if this means good things for the other UCs
Accepted at: Notre Dame (merit finalist), UMiami (president scholar), Penn State honors college, UConn (academic excellence recipient), University of Illinois UC honors college, I think UCSB since I got the chancellor’s reception invite
Son waitlisted.
Mechanical Engineering
UC GPA: 4.27 / weighted 4.7
ACT 35
Accepted: SLO, UCSD, UCSC, SDSU (early invite), Mines. Waiting on the biggies with not much hope: UCI, UCLA, UCB, USC.
The good news is that SLO was his first choice so he’s feeling okay about all of this. What a wild ride.
Each UC campus is unique and has its own vibe. Not every campus will be a fit for every student. With the current Covid 19 situation, the cancellation of Admitted Students days at many schools, and travel concerns, newly admitted students may need to get the information they need to make their decision in other ways. Check out each school’s website, take the virtual campus tour again, check out the school’s social media and try to get a feel for the students, the academics and the campus. Does it feel right to you? You’re looking for an environment where you can thrive academically and socially. The physical environment does matter. You’re only in class part of the time; you have a lot of time outside the classroom. Davis is an agricultural school, cows and farmland are part of the package. Davis is a great college town. If you prefer the city or the beach, it may not be a fit. It depends on what you want in a college experience. Good luck everyone!
@calcollegemom Well said. One more thing in particular my son is looking for is how well he can fit in and resonate with other students on campus. That’s why he was looking forward to Admitted Student Day (esp the overnight stay) so he can interact with existing and incoming students. Unfortunately, he won’t have such opportunity now that all the tours and functions are cancelled. Some schools are offering one-on-one facetime/on-line meeting sessions with students, but that would be very different than meeting and chatting with others face-to-face.
Accepted! Undeclared/Exploratory Major in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
UW GPA: 3.7

Strong ECs, In state, and good essays.
I just received the Regents Scholarship for UC Santa Cruz (yay!) despite getting admitted in mid-February. What is the timeline for Davis? Do scholarships come out with admissions or is there a delay like Santa Cruz?
Congratulations on Regents at UCSC! UCD Regents notification comes out with your acceptance email.
@lkg4answers ah I see. No Davis Regents for me then! It was an honor in itself to be accepted to UCD so I’m very happy. Thank you for the info!
