UCD housing for transfer student

hi guys,

most likely ill be attending UCD this fall. however i still havent decide how im going to live in Davis. Can some one who transfered to UCD tell me about the experience of living in Davis. I would be very pleased if you could answer these questions:

1.If i choose to live on campus which dorm are they gonna put transfer students in? (ill be 22 this fall so it would be better to live with other transfer student)

2.base on your experiences, should i live in dorm or where should i live, which apartments.

3.does financial aid send you a check before school start to pay for housing? or how does that work?

Give me advice on the good housing for students (dorm, apartments)

Thanks alot

It mentions it on their website: [UC Davis Student Housing: Transfer Student Residence Hall Option](http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu/prospective/transfers_2011_RH.asp)

Wow… sounds like there are a LOT of singles at Davis. I would love a single as I don’t think I would enjoy sharing a room with someone. Add another pro to the Davis column.

They will put you in Cuarto most likely. It’s a little away from the campus, but not too far. Having a bike to get to class would be useful.

Depends. I think to get the college experience people should live in dorms to mingle and meet new people. I, however, will be transferring as well but will be living in apartments. I already have plenty of friends in Davis and will be moving in with a couple of them.

I have no idea how Davis’ financial aid works. I really should find out. Submit your forms early though! I already submitted the verification worksheet and my/my parents taxes.

Best place to live in Davis is The Colleges, IMO. The colleges are walking distance to campus. But it’s really impacted to live there cause everyone wants to. I think they have a lottery system set up for people that want to move in… I will be living there with friends :D

Hey, I just visited Davis and looked at both the dorms and the single student apartments.

My friend who lives in cuarto said that the transfers are really just like freshman and they are living like freshman basically. That was the turn off for me. Also, the suites don’t have a kitchen, so you’d be needing a meal plan.

The apartments sounded great, except that when you apply you don’t guarantee your spot at any of the four apartment buildings they offer. Meaning you may want The Lexington, but they put you at The Arbors, which could be a big difference in price for you. I visited all the apartments in their ssa program, and they are all very different in location, price, size, feel, etc. I can’t take the chance on getting placed in one of the ones I didn’t like.

Financial aid takes into account the cost of living on or off campus. When you submit your SIR you can change your preference for on campus to off campus or visa versa and they recalculate based on average rent, utilities, etc. in the area or just the dorm costs.

My plan now is that if i get in I’m going to get an apartment probably at the Lexington and use their roommate matching program, which other complexes have too. Just my opinion though, but you can call around the apartments and stuff for yourself and see. Look at davishousing.com for good info.

Good luck!
