I am going to transfer to UC Davis this fall, and I need opinions on where to live!

I’m 19 so I still have the option of living in the residence halls if i want to. But i’m not sure if I want to live with all freshman.

I was considering Cuarto, but everyone keeps telling me to avoid it.
Would the single houses be better? Like Primero Grove, the colleges at La Rue, and atriums at la rue??

I’m a pretty social person and I would like to live with people my age. What;s better!?!? please help!!!
oh, and I am not considering living off-campus, because I am from So Cal so I don’t know the area at all.

hey, i’m a Socal transfer too. I did the SSAs. I’ve seen Primero Grove at least and it is pretty nice. Just do SSAs unless you really want to live in the dorms. You’ll still have roommates in the apartment, up to three if you want, but you’ll get your own room.

I’m 19 as well (transfer) but did not get the choice to live with freshmen. They essentially told me that they were trying to keep all the transfers ‘together.’ As a result, I’m living in Castillian Hall in Cuarto. It’s not too bad, though.

All transfer students, if they decide to live on campus, will be placed in Castillian Hall. Just imagine a Motel 6 (with pool) and you’ll have essentially seen Castillian without even having visited.

Now, as we know, not all transfers are 19 years old. Some will be or over 21 years old, so I’m interested to see if we (the 19 year olds) would be paired with people of legal drinking age. This should be interesting…

Hmm. I’ll be 18 when I transfer, though that won’t be until fall 2011. Are you guys at all worried about it negatively effecting your social/romantic lives being younger than most of the other people your age?

I know this is an old thread…it’s been over a year since you guys posted…but I’m going to be a transfer next fall.
Now that you guys have been there for a while, what do you say the best housing option is for transfers?

-And will it be difficult for transfers to acclimate socially their first month or so?
[not knowing anyone at Davis]

If you want to live in the residence halls, Webster (part of Cuarto) is currently the new transfer dorms, since Castilian closed in spring. Some transfer students also get placed in Emerson (also part of Cuarto), though that building mostly contain freshmen. If you don’t think you’ll like dorm life, you can go for a Single Student Apartment or opt for off-campus apartments in Davis. Those who want single rooms would probably want Leach Hall in Tercero, though space is limited and priority is most likely given to those with medical reasons.

It’s not difficult for transfers to acclimate socially their first month. A lot of people on my floor were able to get by well on their first day. Many of them were even going to their first frat party the first weekend after moving in. The week after you move in, there are welcome events that let freshmen and transfer students acclimate socially into the school.

I live in Webster and it’s great. We’ve only had one fire alarm go off this whole quarter and that was just for a fire drill, whereas Emerson and Thoreau have had fire alarms go off numerous times because of freshmen burning something in the kitchen, haha.

I live in the transfer dorms…they location is pretty good, lots of bus lines run nearby and it’s close to U-Mall. If you want the dorm experience live here, but if you want your own space and don’t want your financial aid sucked away through housing fees, apartments are cool too! =)

I’m in a SSA. I think that it’s great. You can still socialize easily, but you can also close your own door and have some private quiet time as well.

I’m in a SSA as well, the Lexington to be exact! It’s really nice having my own bedroom and bathroom. Plus, it’s super close to downtown so everything is super accessible.
