UCD or UCSB?

I’m going to be a freshman, enrolling in Fall 2011. Right now, I can’t really decide between UCD and UCSB, but I am heavily leaning toward UCD. I keep hearing things, though, that sort of put me back to the middle.
I’m from SoCal, so SB is a lot closer to home, but I’ve never been a huge beach person nor am I the party type whatsoever.
Is it true Davis students tend to leave campus on the weekends and are less social? I know UCD is really school-spirited, which I really like.
And what is each school known for, academically?

Well, what major are you looking into ? Davis is super biker-friendly, and every school is a party school, it just depends on you to choose who to associate with, it;s what you make out of it.

I’m not completely 100% sure about my major, but it will definitely be in the College of Letters and Science.

I was accepted to both UCD and UCSB , and I ended up choosing SB. I looked up ranking hoping it would help, but they are tied in the US News ratings. I talked to many of my friends that attended UCSB and I have never heard a negative thing about it. It has a party school rep, but it’s strong academically too (Especially for physics, I’ve heard.) I went and visited the campus and fell in LOVE. The beach is so beautiful and everyone looks so laid back and chill. There are bike racks and bike trails everywhere, and there were so many cute beach cruisers. The thing that helped me decide the most was location, I live in southern california too, and my parents really encouraged me to pick SB. If you ever want to go home, you don’t have to fly, you can drive or take the train.

Which campus is better known for its majors in the College of Letters and Science? I think that will ultimately be my last deciding factor. I’m hoping my visit to SB tomorrow will help me clear things up.

Davis is certainly recognized nationwide for agricultural and veterinary sciences, perhaps even world-wide renowned for it. Davis is also quite highly recognized nationally and certainly in the state of California for sciences in general, especially biology/other life science fields of study.

I will be attending Davis and I will be studying Psychology B.S. in the CoLS :)
