I am currently a freshman at UC Davis. I am cool with UCD, but I wanted to apply to Berkeley for transfer in case anything changes next year (there are multiple considerations, but the bottom line is that I want to be able to choose whether I will stay in Davis next year). Hence the following questions:

1) I remember that the transfer application deadline last year was a month after the freshman deadline. This year it says the deadline is Nov 30, which is the same as the freshman deadline, so did that get changed?
2) As far as I understand, UC only allows transfers on a junior level. However, by the end of my freshman year, I should have fulfilled my GE requirements and the lower division requirements for my major. I should also get 90 units; if I don't, I can take a community college class over the summer to get the few remaining units. Does that mean that I count as a junior?
3) I believe UC-UC transfers are legit from reading other CollConf threads, but I just want to make sure.
4) Can I reuse my essay from last year's freshman UC app?

Don’t think you can meet unit minimums by taking summer courses (hope someone else chimes in on this)

If you didn’t get in as a freshmen , there is no good reason to use the same essay.

I believe there is an essay prompt concerning your major , so that is one essay you have to write from the ground up.

4) I didn’t get in because I had a low GPA, not because of a bad essay. Now that I am expected to get a 4.0 GPA, I should get in. I was asking about whether using the same essay is legal. Yes, the major one I’ll write from scratch, but the other one I can reuse.

It was always november i think

you need to meet the min. by SPRING. if you don’t have it the 90 quarter units done by spring, you’re not even considered.

yeah, they are.

Put a lot of work in those essays, tons of people got 4.0s. make yourself standout.

You are almost certainly not going to get into Berkeley as a sophomore transfer, so you should let that plan go.

Don’t say that you are going to get a 4.0 no problem and expect all of us here to believe you. I have not met one student at my University (UCSC) who has gotten a 4.0 their first year of college. It is quite unrealistic and naive.

UC transfers definitely happen all the time, so depending on your major, if you can a 3.5+ and have a solid EC or two, you have a good shot at Berkeley.

I would not reuse my essay from high school. They specifically ask for the applicant to focus on more recent activities. While it is a good idea to reflect on the past, it is an even better idea to reflect on what you are up to in college.
