UCF or FGCU?

Hello, I am a upcoming senior who has been looking for colleges. I look to go into Pre-Med.

Also, financials are big for me. Knowing I want to go to medical school, I do not want to pay off loans for the rest of me life.

Here are my stats:

1720 (superscored) on my SAT:
560 CR, 620 M, 540 W.
3.8 GPA unweighted, 4.8 weighted.
500+ hours of community service.
Ranking in top 5%.

Which of the two do you suggest, and why?

If financials are a big issue, go to a community college and then transfer to a university. You’ll save a lot of money that way, money that you’ll need for medical school.

Between the two, UCF is the better known and more reputable school. That being said, my understanding is that getting into medical school is more about MCAT scores and GPAs than anything else.

I agree that if cost is a big issue, going to a 2-yr community college first is a great way to save money. My son reviewed and visited six Florida colleges and UCF and FGCU came out as top choices for him. he ended up enrolling in FGCU 2 years ago and just loves ti there. One of the biggest factors to sway his choice was school size. UCF is approaching 60,000 students and is one of the laregest, if not the largest, colleges in the US now. FGCU is around 15,000 students so its not tiny, but not huge either. The students are not another number, classes are not taught in auditoriums of 500 students with a grad student teaching them. Plus, I’m not paying for a football stadium in my utition costs. At FGCU, students have smaller classes and get to know faculty personally. They can email their professors, call them, or sit with them one on one during their office hours. That’s what I call bang for my buck. I don’t want my son to just get a peice of paper when he graduates, I want him to truly understand what he learned and to have opportunities to use it. I recommend visiting both campuses during the semester when students are there to get a feel for each campus.
