So I’m a senior and I’m having the most stressful time deciding between these two schools so I would like everyone’s opinions and help so I can have some insight to make the decision easier since I really am running out of time. I visited both schools and they both appealed to me. Yes, FSU was more like a college town and had the aesthetics of a typical college campus which was cool, but the city around it seemed kind of boring. It reminded me of a town near me called Ephrata (I’m from Pennsylvania by the way) and then my visit to UCF was great as well. The campus was huge and stunning, and the dorms were so nice. I’m in love with both schools and I’m torn and don’t want to make the wrong choice. Can anyone help?
I was born and raised in Florida in my opinion, FSU will give you a greater college experience for a few reasons. (1) It’s a larger school which means more chances to meet people, more activities to participate in, greater diversity, etc. (2) The city around FSU might seem boring but honestly the college town vibe will be fulfilling. UCF does have a solid location because of its proximity to such a big city but from what I’ve heard a lot of students tend to go home for weekends which can leave the place dead at times. (3) Socially, FSU has a greater party scene, a bigger Greek system, and for sure more exciting college football. Hope this all helped some what! Go Knights/Noles!!
FSU is in the state capital of Florida, so it’s not a small time town. Both cities sport big time crime (like many college locales.)
FSU is considered a much more distinguished university than UCF. (giant period at the end of that sentence)
UCF is BIGGER despite previous commentator’s opinion, 2nd largest student population in the nation. It also has the highest student::teacher ratio.
FSU definitely has better sports and more active Greek life. FSU will give you a more traditional college atmosphere.
Although not mandatory for any class of UCF students, 12,000 choose to live on campus. If every in-state student went home for the weekend, there would still be at least 3000 students left in town. Florida is a big state. No matter which school you choose, many in-state students must face a 4-6 hour drive to go home home. So, it is not as frequent as you might think.
Agree with everything that’s been said above ^^^
Large town vs. Small town is one of perspective:
Tallahassee Metro Area Population: 368,000 people
Orlando Metro Area Population: 2,134,411 people
Gainesville (because I had to work Gainesville into the conversation!): 264,853 people
With FSU and FAMU in Tallahassee, it can have the feel of a college town. Orlando is just big, it is the third-largest metropolitan area in Florida, the fifth-largest in the southeastern United States, and the 26th largest in the United States.
