FSU, UCF or FIU?

Okay, I have not been accepted in any of these colleges yet, but let’s pretend that I was accepted. I am having trouble deciding what college would be best for me. I have visited all of them and each of them have their pros and cons. FSU is a beautiful, traditional school and it is in a college town. The weather is nice (I like to experience fall) and I like how there is a great campus life. I also like how it is a very well known school for its academics. The cons of this school is that it is 6 hours away from my little town and there is no city life. I want to do fun things outside of the university, but I heard there is not much to do around there other than on campus. I also would only be allowed to come down for major holidays and whenever I can catch a ride with someone. I don’t mind the partying and the fraternities or sororities, although I am not the partying type.

FIU is where my brother is at and it is located very close to the actually city of Miami. My brother will be in his last year of college when I start. FIU has the city life that I personally like and I heard that housing is cheaper when you have a sibling also going to FIU, (I have fl prepaid but not housing covered). FIU has great academics as well, but not as good as FSU though but I am fine with that. FIU lacks the campus life that I want but it has the city life location; but not the nice fall weather I want. I know that if I went here, it would be easier for my parents to pay housing and food plans for my brother and I.

UCF is pretty and a great school. But it is overpopulated and the class sizes are not small. UCF has both the campus life and the weather, I like; plus the city life. UCF also seems highly populated by hispanics ( I am Puerto Rican) and I really want a more diverse school.

***My parents like all of these schools despite their different cons (they want me to go to FIU because my brother is there)
I am the type of person that needs someone to make desicions for me so that I can really understand what I really want. All I ask is for you is to give me an opinion of where you think I would be better in. My top two are FIU and FSU. (Hopefully I got into these three colleges.)

Sounds like you’ve already done a great job of breaking down the pro’s and con’s. You really can’t go wrong with any of these schools.

You may want to take into account your choice of major. For example, if it’s engineering you may want to select UCF, while FSU may be a better choice for Political Science.

Good Luck!!

Thank you for your input! I’m going to go to school undecided for the first year.

Just an FYI: The student body at FIU is close to 54,000 and growing, which is pretty close to that of UCF (~60,000). Over 60 % of FIU students are Hispanic/Latino (~32K), while UCF is only 20% (12K). If I’m not mistaken, FIU has a very high commuter population, with only 13 percent of students living on campus.

I don’t get this…do you care to explain? BTW, there will only be a one year overlap. Do you have any idea what majors you might be interested in? Based on your pros/cons comments, FSU seems to be your top choice.

There’s a chance that if I went to FIU the food plan and the housing would be cheaper just because I have a sibling going there as well. It would be less money that my parents would have to pay. If I went to FIU then I would be using Amtrack to get home and it’s only $35 to go to my town where as the nearest station near FSU is in Gainesville and the tickets come out to be more because of the distance. My parents would save on money if I went to the same school as my brother at the end of it all.

@kiarajade67 fsu is actually in Tallahassee UF is in Gainseville

@FloridaBoy954 Oh I meant that the nearest train station near FSU is in Gainesville. There is no train station in Tally. The nearest one is in Gainesville which is 2 hours away.

Not to throw another iron in the fire here, but have you considered USF?
