Oh gosh, the 17th is also when JHU decisions come out. I guess the 17th will be like a mini Ivy Day for me
the 17th is when I supposed to hear back from UCLA, oh gosh! I might get rejected from both or accepted to both or accepted to one or the other! This is stressing me out!
whoopee three decisions in one day
the 17th is TOO SOON
so much is supposed to come out in that time span – ucla, brandeis, and pomona (or so i hear for all of thos) are supposed to also come out on the 17th and bu is released the next day!!
yikes i’m not mentally ready
I have spring break next week so at least if I don’t get in, I won’t hear bad news until the end of the week so I can enjoy most of the break
does anyone know if there is a groupme for UChicago??
So I guess it’s officially unofficial that decisions come out on the 17th?
@mackyg Or perhaps it’s unofficially official…
True beans
Does any international received the email asking whether they still wish to apply for financial aid at the last moment? The email says that as an international student, if wish to apply for financial aid, need to contact with the college immediately and complete the form by Mar. 14. Does anyone from previous year receive this kind of email?
@maythe4th I did! Mine said exactly the same thing as yours. Since the email is so last minute, (and people who called the asmission office said that they will be releasing results on 17th March), I assume that they have pretty much decided who they want to accept/ waitlist/ reject. Following on from my assumption, maybe they are accepting us and just want to make sure that we do not need financial aid?
A friend from my school who is also an international student not applying for financial aid did not receive this email so maybe that increases the chance of my assumption being true?
Anyway, best of luck to you when the official results do come out! I hope we’ll both join Uchicago Class of 2021!
@pastelmist Thanks a lot! Also best of luck to you!
Doesn’t quite understood the purpose of the email and I don’t know whether this is an indication of acceptance. As an international student, I still feel risky to apply for financial aid. Hope for the best!
Quick question: Will you apply for the aid after receiving the email? lmk.
I wouldn’t read that it’s an indication of acceptance (because UChicago can think through that scenario just as easily as all the rest of you guys! ). What I WOULD read is that they are going to release decisions AFTER that date, possibly shortly after. That might provide evidence supporting the 3/17 release date.
Good luck to all!
Well I certainly hope that’s not the case, I haven’t received the email yet and as UChicago is my firsy choice, I’d be heart broken with a rejection. Here’s an alternate theory though: For everyone who got the email, they are leaning towards a rejection because of your financial aid request; however, they still think you’re an appealing applicant and by withdrawing your financial aid application, you can convince them to change their mind. UChicago is pretty stingy with aid afterall, I heard only about 10% of the accepted international students receive aid? I read it off a website which posted this information a few years ago, although it’s still fair to assume that the statistic would have stayed fairly constant. The university’s endowment hasn’t seen a meteoric rise afterall.
I got an email that begins with the following:
"Dear XXXX:
The University of Chicago has begun processing your application for financial aid. We are happy to partner with you and your family to work through this process. Currently, we need additional information from you to continue the review of your eligibility for financial aid."
Is this a good sign? Should I not read too much into it?
It means that you need to provide them with the needed information.
@TheCrimsonBulldog Yeah I got that email too. I’m trying not think too much of it because financial aid is processed separately from your actual application. The best thing to do is just submit the required materials and wait.
^^The FA and admission processes are completely separate, and you shouldn’t read into it at all. They simply don’t have everything they need and are asking for additional forms. This is common among many schools.
@masquerade98 Alright. I figured… but was still hoping.
Only one more week until March 17th!!!
