UChicago 2022 Waitlist Thread

They first guess the yield based on ED and past year trends and then decide the number of students to be waitlisted with a safe margin, such that they can have full dorms AND a rounded student community.

@fakemonk In either last year’s waitlist thread or the year before, someone’s reg admiss officer said 1,000 people were on the waitlist and the my counselor told me the 1,800 so I definitely think it’s in the 1000s

Has anyone gotten off or heard of anyone getting off yet?

They won’t do anything until they know how many are matriculating. That will happen in May as RD accepted applicants have until the end of April to decide.

Not necessarily @CU123 If you check last years thread people started being taken of the waitlist in mid-late april.

Do you guys know by when should I submit my LOCL? Is there any deadline?

You may wish to indicate your continued interest in UChicago by emailing your regional admissions counselor. It is only advised to send a brief email indicating that UChicago is still a top choice for you, and it’s ok to wait to do this—we strongly encourage you to wait, consider the other options you have as further decisions roll in, and then decide whether or not UChicago remains your top choice with knowledge of your other amazing possibilities. Submitting other additional material such as recommendation letters, additional essays, etc is not necessary, nor do we recommend doing so.
Their website says this about LOCI, I don’t think there is a deadline.

For those of you who’ve already sent the LOCI has your admissions counselor already applied.

yes @Legends

I predict that the week of April 16th someone will post on here that they got in off the waitlist. What do you think? Will it be sooner or later? (Need something to do while we pass the time, right?)

Don’t rely on the waitlist. You need to realise if you were waitlisted, you were not admitted. Get your things in order for the colleges you’ve been admitted to.

I sent a LOCI yesterday, but I still have not gotten a reply.

@Legends No need for the neagtivity. Everyone here knows what a waitlist is.

@Ashtash I’m not being negative, just speaking the truth. We all need to be realistic. If you get off the list CONGRATS, but just know none of us have a good chance. There’s always a possibility they take no one. Except gap year people.

Be happy about where you got into and don’t cause yourself unnecessary stress over a lottery ticket.

Trust me, they’re takinf people

@Legends No one came on here showing a bunch of hope, literally no one. Everyone knows how slim chances are on waitlists. My point is that your comments are unnecessary.

I saw in one post indicated that there is 12% chance for getting off the waitlist, that is absurd. If the admit rate is that high why the overall admit rate is only 7%?

D was lucky, she got off the waitlist few years back when there was no gap year option. NYT had an article indicated that UofC only accepted less than 20 from the waitlist that year. You should search places that is not College official publication for the waitlist stats, UofC will never publish the stats officially.
