UChicago 2022 Waitlist Thread

So I sent in a letter of continued interest, but I haven’t received a response from my counselor. Is that normal?

They’re very busy right now. Don’t worry about it.

I went back and looked at old threads. There is a theory that they start on the same day of the week that they did admissions releases, so Fridays this year. However, this theory was disputed. In addition, last year the first CC admit off the waitlist was the 13th, which happens to be Friday this year. There was also a post indicating gap year admit started around the 27th of April.

I am still betting on next week, but we’ll see.

Do I need to send the LOCI in an email? I uploaded mine to the portal

@notivybound2022
I had a similar question. I emailed my regional AO, but should I also upload an LOCI from my portal?

@CPTsymmetry I think you’re good if you emailed it, I emailed my regional AO and she said she added it to my file.

@notivybound2022 @CPTsymmetry I did both because I was paranoid lol. @eviola17 oh  my AO hasn’t responded since opening it last week… hope that doesn’t mean anything too bad

@CPTsymmetry I only e-mailed. Since I was told in the reply mail that my mail would be added to the file, I haven’t bothered to upload it to the portal…

were the replies of your LOCIs copy-pasted like someone mentioned on last year’s thread, mere acknowledgments, or did they contain some information on how the waitlist works and how we should enroll at another uni by may 1?

This is what mine looked like:

Thank you for reaching out with your continued interest in the University of Chicago and additional updates. Because our applicant pool was especially competitive this year, we had to waitlist or deny many highly-qualified candidates. If you were waitlisted, there is nothing you did “wrong” on your application. As a highly selective institution receiving over 30,000 applications from mostly highly-qualified applicants like you; unfortunately, we do not have room for everyone we would like to take.

We will keep your email message explaining why UChicago remains your top choice in our records and will take it into consideration if/when a spot opens up and we review students who have accepted a place on our waitlist. Please note that our waitlist is not ranked and unfortunately there is no way to tell you where you stand on the waitlist currently because of this. If space does open up and we are able to offer you a spot in the class we will certainly let you know. In the meantime, we do encourage you to explore all of your college options given the May 1st reply date for most US colleges.

Thank you once again for your continued interest. Please let us know if you need anything else moving forward.

Does anyone have any idea when/how we’ll be hearing back with the waitlist decision? I’ve heard they call you if you get in…? And possibly a response before May 1??

Also I got no response from my AO too

My reply was specific, mentioning what I wrote. But it doesn’t mean anything, every AO replies differently. ( there are just a few in my area, so, it takes less time to reply than in areas with a huge pool of students).

@ Everyone, I would not read into AO responses. Doing so would imply they decide on the spot, which I highly doubt.

Agree with @Ashtash getting a reply does not mean much. I am wondering why Chicago waitlisted a large number of people with lower stats this year (from what I heard). Anyone knows why?

@fakemonk If uchicago waitlisted someone with low stats then they probably had something else on their application that stood out. Alot of people with crazy high stats were rejected too.

Assuming people were honest with their stats on cc and reddit.

@Legends Did you hear anyone rejected in RD round though? (not those deferred from EA/ED)

@fakemonk my friend was rejected during RD, but accepted to Harvard, lol
There are a lot of rejected students, at least among internationals

@interapp lol congrats to your friend
