I indicated UChicago as my first choice school for National Merit and now I'm wondering about how it will work to reduce my college expenses.

I AM a student with financial need, so according to the website, I will get $2000, reneweable all four years.

My question is: Does this scholarship count as an "outside scholarship"? In other words, what i really want to know is, will the $2000 I get from this scholarship go towards reducing my Federal work/study expenses?

If so, is there any way for me to keep my work/study earnings and instead have the scholarship money be used to reduced fees elsewhere?

For me, all it did was reduce my Chicago grant, I think. Most useless scholarship ever, haha. I wish it reduced my student contribution or loans, but since it’s a Chicago scholarship, not an outside one, it doesn’t seem to do that. Unless you lie to the financial aid office and get the scholarship disbursed to you directly from the source, or get $56k total in scholarships, your parents will have to pay.

$4k over four years wasn’t bad for a morning’s worth of work. Actually, it’s 4 years’ worth of air fare to and from Chicago from our neck of the woods.
