MODERATOR’S NOTE:
9 posts relating to the Maroon article are off-topic,and I deleted. Additionally, a several of those posts were by prolific UChicago posters and were over-the-top snarky. You should assume that the next post deletion I have to do for either of you will be attached to a warning.Keep it civil please.
@CU123 at #36: looks like that TO student will be going to UChicago.
Well as a side noteit looks like Angelina Jolie was on campus today as her child is attending UChicago in the Fall. Hope there wasn’t any bribery going on.
Please, no.
@CU123 Oh Gosh, I hope you are joking. I do not want want to see a Hollywood celebrity kid at U of C.
no it’s true
@HydeSnark It is true that she was on campus to tour the school? Or it is true that her son is actually enrolling in the fall?
the first, though i guess the second might be true too (I just have no idea)
OK now we know why Boyer is pushing the semester system.
So now we know why they are admitting Test Optional.
I love Angelina Jolie!
Would be good to have her kids major in Econ and turn them into freemarketers Just saying…
Maybe her kid and Rory Gates can date. That would be awesome! Then perhaps UChicago will be in more movie plots. And then we can displace the Northwestern and Yale mafia in Hollywood. I would so enjoy reading about UChicago in US weekly! So many possibilities… jk
Do you think Angelina will buy her kid a house in Hyde Park too?
Why pay to have someone take your SAT when you can just bypass SAT altogether.
Good point, but we are being a bit harsh on a kid who has a famous parent. They didn’t choose their parents.
U of C was already in “When Harry met Sally”. That is more than enough film exposure for me.
I feel disappointed in the school more than anything else, if the kid is indeed going there.
It may just be my active imagination, but I’m perturbed by the thought of TMZ potentially lurking on campus or having celebrities name-check UChicago. It doesn’t feel right.
Maybe this is their next way to increase applications. Lovestruck teens hoping for a date with Maddox will now apply tenfold to the University of Chicago - a good number of them ED. It’s, like, super easy cuz they don’t need your test scores.
@JBStillFlying - hey, wooing celeb kids to apply worked for Brown… Let’s face it, lots of potential (and current) students feel tickled that a Jolie-Pitt or an Emma Watson would choose their school. It definitely helps applications. And Nondorf is much better at wooing these types of kids than most.
@Lucy11 - you know TMZ was started by a Chicago (Law) grad, right? Again, not a bad thing if TMZ gives the U. a little publicity - it certainly needs it more than its peers.
Look, the essential connection here is being overlooked: Brad Pitt played the charismatic but doomed brother of Norman Maclean in “A River Runs Through It”. He met the old man on location in Montana, where they formed an intense father-son bond, which led to the young star making a solemn commitment to his aged mentor that if he ever had a son the kid would go to the University of Chicago, imbibe the wisdom of the great books and thereby inoculate himself against the despair and ennui that destroyed Paul Maclean. The story never made it in to the movie mags, but it’s the only reasonable explanation for the appearance of the kid on this campus.
Marlowe - this is a true story?
