I was just notified that the governor is presenting me an award to commend me on my remarkable character and contribution to my community! But unfortunately I couldn’t include that in my application.

My essays were pretty good in my opinion, should I post them if I haven’t received my decision yet?

I want to major in Political Science/Public Policy or history

and I’m Puerto Rican and Laos

Thanks for any help that you might be able to give!

Do you mean weighted gpa because you have Bs and you say you gpa is over 4.0? Good ECs and as you know being Hispanic helps. Are you first generation and/or low income? Do you have SAT II and AP scores. Your current SAT score is a pretty big obstacle right now. UChicago is a very demanding school to get through so you have to academically prepared to meet the challenge. Good luck! Never post your essays.

How would you have an unweighted GPA of 4.2? Unless it is out of 5.0.

I am trying to figure out how you can manage year-round ECs that amount to 53 hours per week plus other seasonal commitments plus attending school with a current load of 5 AP classes. You must be incredibly sleep-deprived and stressed out. Remember to take care of your health!

@mamaedefamilia I am extremely organized. On the downside i sleep about 4-5 hours a night.

@kingrex16 My school has an odd GPA Scale. We go out of 4.3 scale.

@Multiverse7 my school goes out of a 4.3 scale. My GPA is a little over 4.2. My mother is 35 and just graduated from college this past spring so no I am not first gen. My family income is under $50, 000

@Osiph17 You can send an email to your regional admissions officer to provide an update about the governor’s award.

I got into UChi EA last year and am currently a first-year undergrad. Kudos to working at a restaurant and Hollister: it’s good that you have that experience. I’d say your SAT is a bit on the lower end out of 1600, but there’s a new one from the one I took so maybe you’re fine. Your EC’S are impressive for someone at your age.

Your GPA cannot be above 4.0 unweighted, especially if you have B’s. I think you’re confusing UW and Weighted. It’s fine though, looks like a solid transcript.

It’ll come down to how meaningful your essays represent you and your interests. I would say that I think you’re overestimating how much time you spend on some of your activities (StuGov for example), though I may be wrong. 4-5 hours of sleep per night is not very sustainable. While that’s pretty standard here. I’d advise you to consider if that’s really what you want out of your college experience, or if it would result in burning you out. You’re a strong student clearly; I wish you the best of luck in the coming days.

@Foolsgold345 I would like to talk to you in more depth? Can you message me or email?

@Foolsgold345 @Osiph17 4-5 hours of sleep is NOT normal here. It’s fairly easy to get 7-8 hours of sleep a day and 4-5 is really not healthy.

It’s 4-5 because Im at dance so much a week but in college I doubt I will be dancing after school for 5-8 hours a day like i do now. @Coldsummer123

Obviously with a school like uChicago nothing is guaranteed, but if you bump up your SAT scores a bit I’d say your chances are quite good.

@dtayeri well i applied EA already and decisions are coming out before i get my other SAT scores. Hopefully I get in or at least deferred!!!

@Coldsummer123 YMMV of course

I also do not get 4-5 hours of sleep, oy. That is not common. Not unheard of, but not common.
