UChicago Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@tutututututuru thanks for the response :slight_smile: i really wish we could all get in

hello! does anyone know if your interview shows up on the “application checklist” when you log onto your uchicago account?

also, i used the Find X prompt and i basically wrote about problem solving (idrk) but i thought i was being clever bc i wrote the whole thing without x until the end where i was like omg i found it!!! shrugs

Cheers. Me too.

@KdotTrack yes

Hey guys! Late to the party but I applied EA and planning on Public Policy and alts were LLS and anthropology. What state are you guys from?

Looks like I’m the only who selected molecular engineering, lol.

Louisiana!

i think its funny how schools like uchicago claimed to have a holistic admission process. i really hope they do because of my terrible stats, but im not an idealist.

Florida

@actssmart Why is it funny? They do have a holistic admissions process.

@tutututututuru they claim they do, but looking from EA decisions last year, seems like even the best stats didnt get in, when i didnt seen anyone below a 3.9 with other amazing stuff… I get that it’s holistic, but at least be honest. At an info session i went to, the guy legit said “gpa does not matter to us”. and i couldn’t believe it… (and still can’t tbh)

Did anyone else read about UChicago canceling all classes and activities because of possible gun threat/violence. I believe one suspect detained because of a facebook post that threatened to kill 16 white males ( one for each of the shots fired by police that killed a young black man last Oct but video just released). Very scary.

@actssmart holistic decisions means nobody is guaranteed, and nobody is definitely out. GPA, SAT, EC’s, background, etc. are all considered. A 2400 4.0 who lazed around the house all day probably won’t get in. A 2100 3.7 who was a true leader would probably have a better shot. And essays, those are super important too. Basically, the numbers aren’t everything

@actssmart: If you think about it, not all of UChicago’s EA and RD applicants are registered into CollegeConfidential. That means that you won’t be getting every applicant’s results from this website. UChicago does have a holistic review, even though essays are more highly considred than GPA and test scores (if you were looking in the EA thread from last year, a user with a 26 ACT was waitlisted).
In reality, like @tutututututuru said, numbers from GPA and test scores aren’t everything. Which is why I’m still pretty confident about my application even with my lower scores.

@goingnutsmom: Wow, really? That’s crazy. Was this a recent event?

Very true, and id hope thats the case then maybe i have a sliver of hope.

@Mochis1
Yeah, I saw it on the front page of reddit this morning. It was a big deal.
Basically, a University of Illinois @ Chicago student posted on some website (not 4chan, it was just some random website, I think it might’ve been like the comment section for a movie review) about how he was going to bring guns and shoot up the quad. His motivation was that he was going to kill 16 white people, for every bullet that was fired into a black teen who was killed by a white cop in Chicago. And then suicide by cop. That was his plan, but somebody reported it to the FBI and he got brought in. Classes at UChicago were canceled. So, basically, a nutcase wanted to combat racism by killing UofC students (more white people there, I guess? not sure why he didn’t target his own school), by selecting his targets… racistly.

I sent my SAT subject test scores somewhere around mid October, and there was a delay with my scores due to a change in College Board’s delivery system. They were sent to UChicago on November 4, and I applied to the early action program. Will UChicago consider them with my application? Did anyone else have this problem?

@C8H10N4O2 Yes they will. As long as your materials were received by Nov 24 everything’s fine

does anyone know when the EA decision release date is?

No we don’t know, but I think it’ll be the 16th, for various reasons. If I had to bet.
