UChicago Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

Applied ED to Duke and was accepted to Tulane EA.

ED to JHU, EA to MIT. Might as well gamble…?

EA to Case Western and RD (rolling) for A&M. Got admitted to A&M two days ago

@Mochis1 Congrats! Oh, and something slightly off topic: is your profile picture Ike from Fire Emblem?

@EvenfallsWolf: Thank you! And yes, it sure is!

Here. I wrote in the form of a debate resolution. The content is around scientific research. What did you write about ? ;

@EvenfallsWolf I did ED to JHU as well!

I’ve applied rolling admission to IIT, got in. Also applying RD to Gettysburg, UF, and Renslaaer.

@Krishna98 Cool! I’m pretty sure I saw you once or twice on the JHU ED thread

Any athletic recruits on here?

@KdotTrack: I wasn’t recruited, but I contacted UChicago’s swim coach my junior year and have been in contact with him since. He said he could help me in my admissions process, but I’m not too sure what we can do acceptance-wise :-??

My daughter applied EA. Has an interview scheduled for 11/29 !!! It’s a skype interview with an alumna that lives across the state. We’re in a sparsely populated state in case that’s not obvious.

I’m an alumna also. Maybe I should offer to do local interviews

Wait…do we request an interview or does an alumni contact us? My Ed school had an alumna contact me.

If you requested an interview through your UChicago account, they’ll put an alumnus/alumna in touch with you.

My D had an interview with someone who had just recently graduated. It was on Skype and she was in another state. Lasted a little over an hour I think and was very low key.

The only negative that came across was about the food on campus. My D had gone to UChicago for an overnight visit then to the Columbus Day open house and eaten on campus. She said the food was OK but nothing to rave about. The interviewer agreed and was actually a little more disparaging about their food. Oh well, everything can’t be perfect.

Any guesses about when decisions will be released. I think they might announce the date tomorrow as the deadline for all the materials was the 24th and then the long weekend came.

We live in a big urban area where there should be plenty of alumni but S16 still hasn’t gotten an interview (applied EA about a week before the deadline). He did have a personal meeting with the admissions person for our area though as other students didn’t show up BUT it wasn’t really an interview at all still a standard presentation. Hmmmmmm.

There are lots of good food options the problem is that the dining plan for first years is very restrictive and they have to eat almost all their meals in the old style dining halls not the cafes and quick casual places that kids seem to prefer. There are tons of great places to eat an easy walk from campus as well but at least for first years it’s wasting money because they have to have the unlimited dining plan.

do you guys think not having an interview will hurt my chances of getting in? I missed the deadline but I have heard many cases of people getting in without interviews.

The interview doesn’t really matter. Not taking one can’t hurt at all. Having a really good one can help a little. Having a really bad one can hurt a bit. I didn’t take one, and I’m not worried.
