Hey I just wanted to say, as a Gap Year student who will be freshman in Chicago next year with some of you, that if not getting into this school is the most crushing thing you’ll ever have to face, then you live a pretty charmed life. No matter what this may not be the final judgment for you (i.e. I got deferred around this time last year and got in months later) and even if it is all of you are smart kids, you know college is what you make of it, and you will end up where you need to end up. Good luck darlings, December 18th will be here quicker then expected don’t worry, and I can’t wait to meet you next year!!
@maiphuong got my likely letter Dec 1
@gossipgirlxoxox what is Chicago’s Gap year policy? A Gap Year intrigues me, what are you doing if you don’t mind me asking?
I just got an email from UChicago informing me that my ISFAA hasn’t been submitted. I submitted it over a month ago
@gearsstudio Me too! Submitted tax forms and everything. I’m calling UChicago tonight.
@evenfallswolf Call them during the morning or afternoon, pretty sure they don’t take calls at night ;))
Can it be a hint of admission for you guys :-? As they wouldn’t look at a students’ financial stuffs if they are not interested.
Though if you submitted it and they report you didn’t, probably just something weird in their system.
@gearsstudio I live in China, my night is your day (why does this sound oddly poetic?) I assume you are an international student as well?
@ferrarivettel Hmmm. I’ve heard from my friends (international) that they’ve received emails confirming that they are not applying for FA, which leads to me thinking that this is a stock email. As much as I want to believe it‘s a hint of admissions, I’m pretty sure it’s just confusion in their system. Aggggh one more week!
Any other international students who received similar emails (confirming no FA, missing items…)?
@evanfallswolf I see. I’m an international student but I live in the USA. I’m in the process of becoming an American citizen
@gearsstudio Ah! Good luck! Are you contacting the admissions office today?
@EvanfallsWolf I shot them an email. Let’s see what they reply…
@Indigoraccoon4 I’m unsure what you mean by “Gap Year Policy” for myself I simply informed my counselor that I needed to take a year off and so when I went to ‘accept my position in the class’ I merely selected Class of 2020 instead of Class of 2019. I know a lot of elite colleges are encouraging Gap Years for they have proven a lot of growth and exploration for students, and I also know if you are interested in one and are waitlisted it could actually help you get what some call a ‘forced gap year’ where UChicago offers you a spot in the following years class. But as for me I decided to take Gap Year when my mom got sick. So for me it has been more of a pause on life but still I treasure every extra day I get to spend with my family and my friends who stayed local (I’m like 300 miles for Chicago). I have gotten to do a lot of things and relax a lot more than I ever got to in high school and so if you are considering taking a Gap Year put serious thought into it, I can see it as being the best experience for someone like me but I could see how it could be the worst for someone else (I’m not sure if that made sense lol). So I hope that answered any questions, if anyone has any more I would love to answer them!
I’m really sorry if this is common knowledge but will UChicago provide financial packages at the point of admission? Or do we have to wait to know about Financial Aid?
Thank you
9 more days… but only 6 left to Georgetown and Northeastern decisions! anyone else apply?
I also got an email saying my ISFAA has not been received. I don’t want to read too much into it. I submitted mine like a month ago or so
Looks like it’s a mistake on the admissions officer’s part. Shouldn’t be too big of a problem.
@LLakshma That is an amazing story! If I get waitlisted, I’m sending them Chinese cuisine. Hope your mother’s better
@Livingteen1209 me too, I submitted mine on mid-November and the link I used to submit the form says “submitted.” They said they hadn’t received my score a few weeks ago too, which they actually did but didn’t reflect it on my app. Lol too many applicants to handle all the forms maybe…
I got the same mail. But, I guess it’s some kind of a bug.
Wow we have a lot of internationals.
My UChicago Portal is down. Perhaps, they are updating the checklists and whatnot.
