I’d like to point out that UChicago looks at applications differently. They weight the essays the most.
@waddups RD is probably 2-4%, are you serious… that sounds horrible
@rhdhtai I understand that getting deferred feels horrible, but why go out of your way to bring down everyone here? And getting deferred/rejected ED doesn’t make you less likely to get into UChicago EA for whatever reason. You can get accepted anywhere and rejected anywhere, and, as the people who apply to all ivies will attest to, sometimes college admissions is just a numbers game. My friend got rejected from 6 ivies but accepted EA to Stanford.
Lol amen to all who don’t like the negative attitude. Ive legit always been most interested in UChicago since frosh year, except i fully know that my chances are low, even with (what I think) are respectable stats. My school is one that never has kids going to UChicago, so I’m hoping to be the first in a long time
Good luck to all, and hopefully you and me both see each other at UChicago next year!!!
@TravelTime23 I agree, the ivy ed threads were full of kind and supportive people who would even go to other ed threads to wish them luck. Please, we’re “competing” with our applications, not here.
@tutututututuru IMO if UChicago did SCEA or ED it would be different. There are people, including myself, that felt conflicted about ED because they didn’t want to lose the option of UChicago if they got in their ED school. I think people just get the most hyped about their ED/SCEA schools because they have the highest acceptance rates so it’s the best chance to get in.
Any other prospective Classics major? I haven’t seen any, and we’re a rare breed… haha
I have applied as Mathematics major. Also, is there any advantage for local Chicago applicants?
@shivaya I think most colleges, besides state schools are actually biased against people nearby.
Hi everyone! I was reading a few pages back and I saw some people got an email about FA. What is the consensus on this does that mean people who did not get it are rejected. I hope not
@dr0wning Yeah. It wasn’t right of me to bring my negativity here. I just felt so bad after so many of my friends got in, several who looked up to me in our school, and I got deferred. Didn’t help that my parents yelled at me for it too. It’s true about the chances though. I had a friend get rejected from UT Austin Engineering and get into Stanford.
People acting like UChicago is a backup are crazy. This is my other top choice and is far more selective than every other school I am applying to except Stanford.
That was a mistake by UChicago, regarding the FA email.
@rhdhtai your parents yelled at you for not getting into a school? I don’t want to like, criticize your parents and people I don’t know… but… that’s awful.
@rhdtai - Your passion for UC seems sincere and I really hope that your desire and enthusiasm come across in your essays. Know that each of us will end up at the right school and we will all make the most of that opportunity.
U Chicago seems to be keen on the essay aspect as far as admissions are concerned. Presumably recommendations are also equally important. Any idea how seriously they look at ECs?
@tutututututuru What email? I haven’t gotten any since submitting my app except for a password reset email. I’m getting bad vibes because I didn’t get emails from Columbia either, and look how that turned out
@alpha525 @shivaya I think it helps to be from Chicago, considering the info in these links:
http://promise.uchicago.edu/
https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/scholarships
UChicago has made a “pledge to help increase college access and readiness for Chicago high school students”
@shivaya according to collegedata.com (http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg01_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=327)
rigor = recs = essays > ECs = GPA = rank > standardized tests = interview = interest
my school doesn’t rank though…
Wow, this thread is getting more festive after the Ivies ED results came in!
Just curious, mind sharing what other schools (reach/target/safety) are you guys applying to? Accepted to any? Mind sharing your stats as well?
Some people got an email saying they didn’t turn in some FA stuff. I didn’t.
i got an email asking if i was planning on applying for FA. If yes, i had to update my profile, if no, I just ignore the emial
@tutututututuru I got a similar one that asked me if I did not apply for FA and to send FA stuff ASAP if I plan to. Actually I didn’t. So I disregard the email.
