Guys. Let’s. Wait. Till. Friday.
Nah mate I’m gonna open my decision early
Hahahhahhaha
I only want to say that “nominal” and “real” acceptance rates are drastically different. My school is a nationally known prep school. Over the past few years there’s this steady 50% acceptance rate at my school, and last year 9/14 kids got in. On the scattergram you can see this fine line that separates those that are accepted and those that are not. Once you pass this line, chances are you are probably getting in, and only a handful didn’t. But for schools like Columbia, that’s simply not the case. They reject whomever they want, however they want, whenever they want. Both Columbia and UChicago have similar accepted GPAs and SATs, but I have to say that UChicago is far more predictable than other equally ranked schools. Don’t get me wrong, I love UChicago, and UChicago is my No.1 choice, but I still have to say that the acceptance rate is definitely watered down. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe UChicago just loves my school and Columbia doesn’t. Who knows.
@TrazCapDEV - BTW, may I ask if your school in midwest or east/west coast?
@TrazCapDEV I think the UChicago applicant pool is literally a large population of Ivy League ED/MIT + Caltech EA. A bit over 10,000 apply and if you add up portions of the applicants from ED in Ivy League-HYP and MIT Caltech EA, you come out to the same number.
@TrazCapDEV My point is that it could be “watered down” but only marginally.
Yo fam let’s talk about important things like what’s your favorite color? Supreme Court justice? Ooo if you could pick and year to live in what would it be?
I’ve talked to a few friends (more so acquaintances) in-person about applying to college. I’m getting the vibe that A LOT of people apply to the “nerdy 3” (yes, I just coined a term). You’ll be facing applicants who want to attend Caltech, MIT, and UChicago in the early round especially.
sounds like new interesting essay topics?
Finally the real questions: brown, William Orville Douglas, and 2204 AD!
Blue, Hugo Black, and 1968.
@Indigoraccoon4 thanks for clarifying!
@shivaya I don’t know the post #, but I listed aspects of the app (ECs, volunteer work, GPA, standardized tests, etc) in order of most to least importance. Essays and LOR were both “very important” according to collegedata.com
Go UChicago
@Newdle That name is hilarious… and now that of think of it, the unofficially ranked 1/625 student is applying to those schools early
@shivaya East
maroon (but really), RBG & 1848
@hope1938 I know someone admitted to UChicago who wrote about food so may be a lucky trend! His GPA wasn’t stellar but he was super smart and creative.
I just felt I’d chime in a few days before decisions are released and introduce myself. I applied EA to UChicago. I’m from the Boston, MA area. I just got deferred from UPenn, unfortunately. Shoutout to @shivaya If I were to end up at UChicago (which in my opinion is really unlikely. I think at best I’ll be deferred, more likely rejected.), I would be majoring in Philosophy and Allied Fields, of which the field I would ally with is History or Classics. So to that guy who applied for the Classics and was wondering whether there was someone else out there who was interested in the Classics, I’m here! I guess the good thing is I tend to consider my essays the strongest part of my application (definitely the CommonApp, UChicago essays I took a huge risk with, and it could go either way, but since I don’t expect to get in anyway and since UChicago is not my first choice, I don’t mind being risky.) Anyways, good luck to all of you, and it’s probably unlikely, but maybe we’ll see each other someday.
Also, can anybody confirm for me when decisions are released?
