@zengdt i will be doing that soon!!! i just wanted to pop in and say hi because i love uchicago a ridiculous amount lmao
This is unrelated but anyone know when we are supposed to hear from UVa EA?
@VaishS 31st Jan I think!
anyone know the exact time for decisions on the 18th?
UChicago has just said “late afternoon.”
I can’t help seeing the parallel to firing - also best done on Friday.
So nervous! A friend of mine whose father is well connected with UChicago said that admissions rates are projected to hit a historic low
I think most people here expected that - acceptance rates have been falling each year for a decade.
http://chicagomaroon.com/2015/04/14/record-low-acceptance-rate-as-applicant-numbers-increase/
The real question is how competitive the pool is growing - I personally chose UChicago over all of the SCEA schools, and I doubt I’m a special snowflake who’s boldly doing what no applicant has ever done before. I still think the SCEA schools are probably tougher EA due to those pools’ highly self-selecting nature, but UChicago’s EA rate was below 10% last year, so it’s no walk in the park.
I believe UChicago’s EA pool is not any “easier” than any SCEA school. Many strong applicants who is targeting at similar prestigious colleges in ED round are also applying for UChicago’s EA.
@Anfernee Be that as it may, we aren’t in the same EA pool as HYPS applicants, and UChicago’s EA pool rarely includes the likes of Chelsea Clinton or Natalie Portman.
Not saying it’s easy, but I doubt the UChicago pool is like the SCEA applicant groups - where a large number of accepted students are legacies, athletes, development admits, or famous people/kids of famous people. UChicago tends to have fewer athletes with major support from coaches, fewer development admits, and fewer people from famous/powerful families.
@asapkwoky oh my godd no
On another note, how do Facebook groups for college acceptees work? Anyone got any idea?
@NotVerySmart I understand your point. I think that’s why many students who distinguish themselves by mainly intellectual pursuit love University of Chicago. But I think the concentrated group of such academic driven students may actually make the admission tougher. Perhaps people who have done well in other fields tend to get the favor of SCEA schools as they want a “diverse campus,” whereas UChicago is famous for its rigor and nerdy culture.
@NotVerySmart I definitely agree with your point, but I think it’s also important to recognize UChicago’s almost meteoric rise in the past few years. Given this rise, more students are choosing to apply to UChicago as their dream school over a lot of Ivies (probs not HYP). At the same time, UChicago’s essays almost filter out candidates who aren’t interested or aren’t as intellectually vigorous, whereas there are tons of people applying to HYP just because they want a shot and HYP’s essays are easier to do imo.
@hope1938 Northeastern comes out the 15th? I thought it was the 31st for some reason
Do you think they fully read every essay? As long as they’re not obnoxiously long?
uchicago’s emails will be sent at 4pm chicago time on friday, there is a countdown on the website
I don’t see it
@senior4031 wait where is that? So thats 5:00 EST
If @senior4031 means a site that has countdowns for a wide variety of universities, I don’t believe they have any more information than we do. UChicago has said they’ll be releasing e-mails “on Friday, December 18th in the late afternoon,” which in my mind could be anytime from 3:00 to 6:00 (though probably between 4:00 and 6:00). That’s potentially as late as 7:00 EST.
Anyone got any news ???
Is it Friday the 18th?
That should answer your question. Only recruited athletes have heard anything at this point.
