Does any one have any eccentric/nerdy hobbies/extracurriculars? I’m a big boardgame fan.
Well as a kid in elementary school i was a huge history buff and grew up watching the History Channel and Discovery Channel instead of watching Disney and Cartoon Network if that counts lol @DominicBayer
What are your favorite boardgames?
@DominicBayer I’m a huuuugggeee lord of the rings/ Tolkien fan and a while back I used to participate in online chat forums on Saturday afternoons where people got together and analyzed chapters from his books. =;
Cool, @ThatGuy1998. I’m also a big history buff, especially of military history.
So, I have a question for everyone… In interest of keeping our minds off of the impending decision…
Who’s your favorite Civil War general, and why?
@exacademic. I like Monopoly, Axis & Allies, The Making of the President: 1960 (I don’t have the game though) and Diplomacy. I’ve created a few boardgames myself in the hex style.
Cool, @kathkath42. I’ve read the whole trilogy, the hobbit, the Silmarillion and other Tolkien books but still haven’t watched the movies. A chapter-by-chapter analysis does seem like something only hard-core fans would do though.
@whatisalie. Either Phil Sheridan for his brilliant use of cavalry or James Longstreet for sheer genius and chivalry, or Pap Thomas for sheer coolness. What about you?
I love edu policy and policy in general and read Supreme Court decisions for fun. Fun fact Sherman marched through my high school’s campus and we have tons of artifacts and a grave yard/church ruins dating back to pre-civil war gated off.
Cool, @Indigoraccoon4. Reading decisions is always a bit tough; I really like Rehnquist’s dissent in Texas v. Johnson. My mom actually interned at the Supreme Court with Rehnquist. Must be interesting to study at a historical site.
Yo, I can ALWAYS get down with some board games. I could play Risk all day long.
@jacobpilawa. Risk is cool, especially when you gang up on someone. LOL.
I’m obsessed with A Song of Ice and Fire. My favorite civil war general is Sherman, but I guess that’s cliche. My favorite board games is Letters from Whitechapel. Have you guys ever played that? Basically one person is Jack the Ripper, going around kill prostitutes, and the other people are detectives trying to find him.
Interesting, @tutututututuru. I haven’t read the book. I didn’t know about the game, though the concept seems a bit similar to that of Agatha Christie’s “And then there were none”.
@DominicBayer thats so cool about your mom! We have a law and global policy center at my high school and today for a summative grade we got to do a moot court. I got to be a justice instead of an attorney which is way more fun. Texas v Johnson is intresting.
@Indigoraccoon4. Moot court must be super cool! I hope the case was interesting. Is there are any SCOTUS case in particular that is your favorite?
@DominicBayer A Song of Ice and Fire is actually a series. You’ve probably heard of the Game of Thrones tv show – it’s based off the books. And yeah I’d recommend Whitechapel, it’s honestly a lot of fun on both sides. On one side, you’re trying to find the perfect path to avoid detection, and it’s really tense. On the other, you’re trying to deduce where Jack could be going. Good stuff
@tutututututuru. Yeah, I’ve heard about the show, but I hardly watch any TV. I’ll look into the game; it sounds very cool.
Whitechapel kinda sounds like Mafia to me. Anybody know that game?
Except Mafia isn’t a board game…
