UChicago Class of 2023 Applicants

Thanks Brian. I know worry and regret are no use as they only impede with my successes in the future, however I guess it would have been better if I asked how not submitting a video would affect my decisions.

HKim the answer is not at all. The video is now in lieu of interviews which also had no impact on the decision ( particularly since it was hard to get one).

Ah okay thank you. The concern I had was that since it was a video supplement, they thought all students should be able to make a video.

Nope. Some will submit various supplemental material just like any other year, but the video thing is new this year and if you felt that Admissions had a good picture of you w/o one there was no need to send. Your original instinct was probably spot on. Believe me, a LOT of people will be sending in videos because they think it’ll help their chances! It’s not exactly the hardest thing to do. Like drudging up yet another optional rec. letter. These things assist minimally at best, and I’d worry about inundating admissions with too much material, not too little JMHO.

Just want to give a little hope to the EA applicants. Recent discussion on this board has made it sound like you have to have a hook or have cured cancer to get accepted EA. My daughter was accepted to class of 2022 EA, and although she had exceptional stats and good ECs, she really had no traditional hook. She worked super hard on her app and essays and had what I believe was a LOC that was very “UChicago-ish” (not by design though). Good luck to all and, believe me, it will all work out. Whether it’s Uchicago or someplace else, you will land somewhere that provides a great education, lots of opportunities, new friends and a lot of personal growth .

I applied EA for the class of 2023, I was rejected from my ED school so I’m very nervous for UChicago decisions to come out. Can somebody please chance me?

Your stats and everything are clearly great. It’s hard for anyone to chance you, and what they say is probably not worth much. Don’t worry, based on your stats you can still go to many great schools.

When are we expecting to hear back? I think I saw December 19th somewhere. Is that right?

Monday at 5:30 central time

Monday at 6:30 Eastern Time for me

Is this for ED or EA?

@Horseymom
Pretty sure ED and EA get released at the same time.

@JBStillFlying You saw my stats previously on this thread, do I fit the type of person that will get accepted EA

UChicago is one of those elite schools that totally embrace nerdiness which I find attractive about it. I feel that I could be my true self if I come here.

My twins just got accepted ED to University of Rochester (BME/BIO). Emailed RAC to pull EA apps.

Felt one of them was a better fit for UChicago than my son, who is currently loving everything about UChicago.

Good luck to everyone.

FBS congrats to your twins! Don’t be a stranger here! ;

Not your kids’ field, but Rochester is a freshwater school so totally cool. Unfortunately, couldn’t get my son to look into it even though he has grandparents from the area.

@Youngmis123 at #312 - have no clue! Not on the admissions committee! It’s different this year with the test optional aspect so we’ll see what happens! I’m almost as curious as you are to see how it all turns out.

We are the last elite school to get our decision, why is that?

I wouldnt want to put it down to exceptionally large pool of applicants =_=

What is the typical applicant that they want to apply test optional, is it open to every applicant or a specific group of applicants
