Uchicago Deferred Applicants Class of 2020

Thanks @Careful ! If I request an on-campus interview should i just select RD as my application plan?

S got deferred too. Will send email of interest.

Anyone knows if mid year report can be sent through common app? Thanks!
Also, what are the schools you guys have been accepted to?

I don’t know about the mid year report – you’d have to ask a counselor.

I’ve been accepted to IIT, interviewing for a full ride scholarship there. But they’re no UChicago. :stuck_out_tongue:

But IIT actually has a CTA station on campus :frowning:

@HydeSnark Oh, that’s cool. I know very little about IIT. I do appreciate them throwing money at me, but I’m not sure if it’s a good fit for me. But, in light of the deferral, beyond my Rhetorical Manipulation Action Plan I am going to go visit IIT, Boston U, and Amherst.

Hey y’all! I have a quick question. When should you send your letter of continued interest? Should I wait until my semester grades have come out (which might take till January) to send them a letter or just send one now?

@ravenclaws I don’t think it’ll matter in relation to your grades, as your school should send a mid-year report. It’s all a gamble, so consider when exactly you want them to read your email, and try to time it perfectly.

@whatisalie ok cool, thanks!

@whatisalle - Illinois Tech is mostly Engineering and Science and we do it well but being an AITU school, it is not a good fit for everyone. Hope you enjoy your visit in February!

So, fellow deferred students, what have you all been doing in terms of your application?

I’ve sent an email and scheduled an interview – you guys?

Already sent an email. I also know of someone who was flat rejected with good stats, so I’m sure Chicago does reject some people EA.

I sent the email, and received a kind reply. Otherwise, I’ve just been working on other applications.

Wondering if the EA deferred applicants are looked at in the same light as RD applicants? I just hope they don’t favor the new RD students over the deferred ones.

From what I see, they favor deferred applicants over RD ones.

That’s great news for us then!

Hey guys! I just have another question. Are we supposed to change our decision plan (like EA to RD) on the uchicago portal? I just checked it today and apparently, we’re supposed to do that? It’s not working for me and I’m worried the staff won’t get back in until after the deadline.

hi guys lol

As someone who has average stats (for UChicago) who was accepted Early Action (which is like a 9% acceptance rate), yet deferred ED from Penn w/ legacy (this demographic is about a ~40% acceptance rate), I am extremely confident in saying that for UChicago, essays are the make or break thing. To deferred applicants, if you have the opportunity to revise your essays, or even send them an email showing how you have the “UChicago” factor (i.e. passionate about pursuing knowledge and would be a contributor to the “life of the mind”), I think that would go a longer way than anything else which you have the power to do at this time. Show them how your story fits the UChicago profile. Good luck to all of you guys! I hope to see you in Chicago next September.

I was just wondering if UChicago defers a lot of people like Harvard or just those with some chance of getting in?

@Raamael It’s like Harvard - defers everyone (or almost everyone) so you can’t tell if you were close or not.
