UChicago EA Applicants 2019

@sofritachipotle‌ did you do the pH prompt? :)

im feeling especially apprehensive tonight :-(

Since the financial aid stuff isn’t used in admissions (supposedly), I hope my not having sent them yet will not hinder me.

@Ch1746‌, yea UChicago is need blind so your financial aid app, or lack thereof, would have no impact.

would admissions view me badly if i wrote my own essay prompt (the last option) instead of writing about the more creative ones?

@graduatingin2015 No way! They wouldn’t have it on there if they didn’t want to hear what other creative prompts people would create :)

@graduatingin2015 I can’t say for sure, but in my opinion, it’s more creative to write your own prompt than to answer one of the existing prompts. I’d assume most applicants answered one of the original five, but you are the only person who answered your particular prompt. So that makes it very creative  Also, if they weren’t open to seeing original prompts, they wouldn’t have included the option. It’s not a trap - it’s an opportunity.

Oh, and I did not write my own prompt, so I’m not biased towards that option in any way!

If you had some outrageous prompt, with an equally outrageous answer… I think you actually have an advantage.

I think it would only look bad if you created your own prompt to use some generic essay about yourself that could have very well been used for the common app. One piece of advice that really helped me write my essay, was to think of it as an English assignment where you could go wild.

In my opinion, the prompts were a little more difficult to answer than in past years. So making your own does not only help in applications, this year is a great one to do so.

i wish i were creative enough to have created my own prompt, hahaha

Did anyone else do the odd numbers prompt? I feel like I was the only one…

Also, they’re fine with you turning in your financial aid things kind of late. I emailed them for help on it two days ago and they were still fine and I’m applying EA

@ForeverOne97 I did the odd numbers one! I had a fun time writing it  I know a few other people on here did that one also.

it seems like the “why are you here?” one was quite popular. i did that one. i really wanted to do the odd numbers or pH question, but they never worked out

I did “Why are you here” too and I’m very proud of it, whether it gets me in or not haha… Obviously hoping for the positive but the odds are not looking so great :stuck_out_tongue:

@ForeverOne97 I, too, did the odd number essay. I thought it was hard to write, but since I said I was interested in Mathematics (That was my first choice under possible majors or whatever it was called), I really didn’t want to do a different topic.

@kateko‌ i really liked mine too! and yeah, i feel the same way

Me too kateko! I did “why are you here” and I’m very proud of it  and yah the odds are not exactly in our favor haha

I thought about doing the “odd numbers” one but ended up with the words that can’t be translated. Which I actually thought I did a good job on…but as the weeks have gone by, Ive become convinced that it is terrible. Or maybe not.

which is why I want this decision thing to be here already.
