Why is it that UChicago still doesn't have its own results thread when the decisions are coming out in ~20 days?! This is insane lol! So, who's excited for the results? I know I am!!!

I am! Has a date been announced yet?

@napalm2013, i don’t think so, but I’m assuming that considering it’s usually Dec.15, we can expect a delay of up to 5 days this year due to the deadline extension/20% increase in EA apps.

i almost had a heart attack when i saw this thread…

i hope the results will be out in 20 days!

the excitement is palpable…where else did you guys apply early to?

ED to Brown, EA to here. Hoping for the best.

Hey hevydevy, Brown and UChicago are very different schools and I was just curious as to why you applied to both if you don’t mind?

EA to here, U Maryland College Park, and SUNY Albany and Binghamton. I hope I get in but I doubt it (at least EA… I may get in RD if I luck out)

I applied EA to BC and SUNY Binghamton.
UChicago’s my dream school…the suspense is killing me! Half of me, the overly confident, self-assured, I-always-get-what-I-want half is telling me I’ll get in, but the realistic half is saying I won’t.

jamesbond1:

Hi. I completely understand what you mean about the two being completely different. I’m applying to both schools because both schools, I believe, fit my personality–each school just fits it in a different way.

With Brown, you have the ultra-liberal, laid back, open curriculum in one of the coolest parts of the country. It’s very undergraduate focused and the school emphasizes the humanities which is awesome.

With UChicago, despite my desire to not have a core, I feel like the school has my ideal student body–quirky, intellectual, academic, desiring to learn more and more. The political theory department is top notch and graduate placement is excellent.

I guess you could say that I’m applying to Brown for the social atmosphere and the academic openness and UChicago for the intellectual atmosphere and excellent graduate prep.

Does that make sense?

When do UChicago decisions usually come out?

I don’t know, I’ve been waiting 18 years though so hopefully soon…

While I do agree logistically the notification date should be later than normal due to the storm and the deadline being pushed back, Cornell and Columbia both had theirs pushed back and both schools have recently announced that their notification date is the 13th of December.

So perhaps we’ll find out in 16 days?
A guy can hope :P

They got wayyyy less apps I believe, since they’re ED. Hopefully we’ll at least know by the 15th.

Sorry to break it to you guys, but there is absolutely no possibility of us hearing back by the 15th…the date for EA schools is almost ALWAYS later for that for ED schools because an ED applicant who applied to, say, Columbia, might have also applied to Chicago. But if he gets in to Columbia he has to go. That’s why there is a delay of usually a week for an EA school like UChicago to “reevaluate” its applicants depending on the number of applicants that are bound by ED and have withdrawn their early applications from Chicago.
I’m hearing that 21st is going to be the date this year. Hope it’s earlier though.

James, if true, that is the first post I have seen in weeks on this board that makes me feel better… here’s to ED attrition!

The decision date last year was 12/19 with the same two factors as this year: a storm around Nov 1st that postponed the application deadline and a 20% or so increase in EA applications over the prior year. I believe in absolute numbers, there are 1,500 or so more EA apps this year so to the extent that they push the decision date even later, I would say that 12/21 is a good guess.

Edited to add: UChi didn’t post the decision date until I believe a week before…

My last post was a bit of a blunder, Columbia finds out the 6th of December this year. Cornell finds out the 13th.

I’m really hoping for an early notification date, this wait is killing me!

oh and @Mutti, they have indeed stated that the 2017 decision date will indeed be posted about a week before the date.

^ Source? Checking out the Columbia thread it hasn’t been announced yet. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1403802-official-columbia-university-class-2017-ed-results-19.html

Oh I guess it hasn’t. My best friend is applying to Columbia ED and he told me it’s the 6th, but I guess he’s mistaken.
