Does anyone know like exactly how we will find out, like after you go onto your UChicago account will it just surprise you and pop up like ‘congrats’ or ‘rejected’ or do you have to press a button and then it will show you?
I don’t know why this matters but a button would give me a chance to try and calm down before hyperventilating you know?

pretty sure there is a button prior to viewing your decision letter

Do the majors we indicated interest in have any weigh on our admission process? I mean so many people change their major once in college, so does it?

i think that they just ask that question to learn of the student’s interests at the college

Lol they should just have “CORE” as an option :P

Okay. So UChicago has said that they don’t want to announce their decisions release date because they don’t want people to be disappointed if they run into technical difficulties that could delay the release date. Do you all think that this means they won’t be making ANY announcement, and we’ll just have to keep refreshing like mad next week? Or do you all think that they’ll just make an announcement closer to the actual release date?

this all sounds very weird to me. they will probably say something by the end of this week… i don’t think they would just randomly release decisions without notice

@NateChortek two things come to my mind.

1) They actually had so many EA applicants this year they are unsure if their site could handle so many at once if everyone just tried to view their results, resulting in a server overload and the site crashing. It makes sense to me, I mean Common App had that issue last year.

2) They are still not sure about a few things and would prefer to keep the date secret for now until they pan things out for real.

They may or may not make an announcement. Your call confirms the decision is next week, so at this point either way would be okay. I am slightly inclined to saying that they will do an announcement just judging by past years, but this year clearly seems to be different for admissions. I suspect in part they are somewhat bewildered by the # of apps for EA alone and need to make sure they still have a sizable # of spots left for RD.

I reaalalllly want an announcement of the date! I don’t think I can handle not knowing when it will be. I need a date to fixate on. Refreshing like mad all next week would drive me completely insane.

Hey guys. I know I haven’t said anything so far, but I just wanted so say it’s been really nice following this thread. You all seem like such awesome people, and it’s made it a lot easier waiting being able to read all of your comments. Good luck to everyone!

well, soon we’ll be a day closer to decisions. whenever that day is.

@ForeverOne97 ; “I was the only one.” I see what you did there ;)

@daintychemist ; I’ll show it to you if I get in. It was create your own. The topic wasn’t creative, but the essay itself was.

@foreverone97 I didn’t do an optional one but the “Why Chicago?” I wrote about my research project dealing with stock velocity and their correlation and I mentioned how my research was inspired by Eugene Fama (economics prof at Chicago) and his 5 factor model in dealing with stock portfolios. what about you?

Hey guys

Looking forward to spending the next week or so freaking out with all of you – you seem like some fun people to feel apprehensive with

Oh and I know some people are talking about Chicago worrying about having the system glitch out because there were so many early applications this year (waived app fees) but I’m pretty sure they got about the same number of applications that they got last year, which is somewhere around 11,000

yeah, the number wasn’t drastically greater than last year’s number.

im so tired. hopefully i don’t dream of a rejection all week, hahaha

First off, guys seriously calm down.

But anyway, can you guys tell me what you want to do at UChicago? Like, not major and that boring stuff, but what you want to learn, how, and connecting with future and stuff. (Sorry if this sounds like an admissions essay)

I personally know a couple of my teachers who went to UChicago, and like what they said about the place. One of them knew a guy who was studying to become a doctor (roommate?), and told me about the awesome hospital and the rather deep connections it had with undergrads. I personally haven’t been to Chicago, but further research online (plus questions to said teachers), made me want to study to become a doctor there too.

@ElPsyCongroo first off, I simply don’t understand how you’re not freaking out, but please let us freak out in peace. That’s what this thread is for: chicago EA applicants 2018 to find others in the same boat and commiserate with one another.

I want to learn for the sake of learning, and learn it well. To find a field I’m passionate about and learn all there is to learn about it and then research further. Whether it’s in medicine or physics or art (I’m very undecided haha). And be surrounded by likeminded people. Plus Chicago the city is amazing from what I gathered from my one visit there.

i love the breadth of the curriculum because i have a wide range of interests. plus everything at uchicago is top-notch so it’s hard to go wrong. the study abroad programs also look amazing. i would like to pursue some kind of work or grad school overseas, and the school appears to have a great international reputation. that will help me. the classes seem extremely engaging, which excited me. coming from ap classes where most students are unmotivated and don’t do the reading, it will be a very different but positive environment. im sort of a soft spoken person and don’t participate much in high school, but i think that uchicago would sharpen my argumentative skills and such. wow just so many things ok

(this is what you get from me when im about to fall asleep) good night

Good Evening Everyone,
Like a few of you I’ve seen post here, I have been following this thread, but stayed out of the conversation for inane reasons of superstition. But, I have decided that it would be more fun to revel in the possibility while I still can! Either way, good luck everyone.

@Awflapjackz and @Applicant15,
I’m very interested to hear about your opinions of UofM! I certainly agree that Uchicago has a feeling to the campus that is unlike anything else, but in many respects, the universities are quite similar. If UofM was the same size as Uchicago, their acceptance rates would be almost the same, and academically, I’d argue the LSA honors college is comparable to Uchicago 100%. On the point of arrogance, I’m sure there are arrogant individuals at most universities, maybe you’d just encounter more at UofM due to how large the student body is?
