Anyone else want to get into UChicago?

I made a CC account just to say that I also want to get in to UChicago and wish they would have released a decision date so that I wouldn’t be dreading every day (even though I probably still would). :((

How is it that we know when the release date will be?

@Ctesiphon Um, each and every one of us!

@naaattt do you mean how will they communicate with us when the date will be? I think the admissions tumblr (don’t quote me on that haha)

Oh! Actually just saw that the admissions tweeted that they will notify us via email when the date is set.

@wethemusicmakers Yay they finally said something! But we still have no idea when :((

@wethemusicmakers I had no idea there was a twitter account out there…thanks though! I’ll be constantly checking my email now…

@alleycat2 so now we know the way that they will notify us about the date that they’ll tell us our admission decision. Progress!

Honestly I’d take anything as progress at this point. I’m hanging on everything they say even thought it’s not really important and they have perfectly good reasons for not announcing the date yet. I’m sure they’ll send out the emails and post something on the admissions tumblr and maybe even on the ‘as an admissions counselor’ thread here around the same time, and do the same thing on decision day. Ugh. Decision day.

My counselor told me either the 17th or 18th! I haven’t heard anything from the school itself, but at least this is something :)

the 17th and 18th are actually so close… about a week to go then! the waiting is going by so slowly yet so quickly.

Vietnamese applicant! I’m so nervous now… counting each day … And 11,000 EA applicants… woW

this is so nerve wracking…

Oh my god the 17th or the 18th. I can’t wait.

and the apprehension grows for another day.

I put so much time into my essays…literally weeks. I know the whole “super holistic, essays are the most important thing” reputation that UChicago has, but can anyone shed some light on how much of an actual difference it can make in a decision?

I can’t handle the anticipation on the decision. It’s only a week away!

@Localdreamer15 I don’t think any of us can answer that. I don’t think anybody can answer that haha. It’s a question for the admissions staff, but no admissions department is ever going to be completely candid about what matters and how much you can coast on test scores/essays/sports, etc. It’s impossible because every reader and year and application is different, and it would discourage some applicants. My impression is that UChicago is the most holistic ‘ivy-level’ school, but honestly I think at any institution, if you truly blow them away with your essay, it’ll be enough to make them take another look if there was something keeping them from admitting you before. Certainly, in an applicant pool overflowing with varsity athletes, master violinists and 4.0 GPA’s, the essay is really your only chance to stand out. Maybe that’s what they mean when they emphasize its importance. Good luck!

I’m really worried because the Common App was messing up and not sending one of my letters of recommendation, and I didn’t realise until after the deadline. My regional councilor said it was fine, but I’m still freaking out over it.

So has UChicago actually said it will be the 17th or 18th? I haven’t seen anything.
