UChicago EA - Deferred to RD Confusion??

As per this link <a href="https://blogs.uchicago.edu/collegeadmissions/2012/12/early_action_decisions_release.html%5B/url%5D">https://blogs.uchicago.edu/collegeadmissions/2012/12/early_action_decisions_release.html</a></p>

Defer: Your application has been deferred to Regular Decision. Our deferred students are not ranked - we're simply hoping to review your application within the context of our entire applicant pool. Rest assured, we historically admit around ten percent of deferred students from the RD pool, and, if UChicago remains your top choice, I've included advice and instructions for deferred applicants below.

Deferred students are not ranked - What does this actually mean??

I mean once we are deferred then we the fact we applied EA is not considered?

I think it means that they don’t rank the list of deferred students in order of the possibility that you will be admitted. They will assess the pool of deferred students based on the RD pool and make a decision on each deferred student. My advice if you were deferred is to move on to other options – they defer pretty much everyone they don’t admit in the EA pool, and then either outright reject or waitlist almost all of them. And their waitlist had thousands of students on it last year.

Not sure…hard to get stats, since U of C does not publish the Common App. Chicago Tribune says they put 3,000 students on the waitlist in 2012, though.
