The e-mail certainly confirms that UChicago has all your stuff. However, if you are using the CommonAp you can also check to make sure that things like the counselor and school report, and teacher rec. letters are marked as “downloaded”. I think that means they’ve received and processed those materials.
lol here. Do you go to a school in the US?
how do you sign up for an interview for early action?
@allima There should be a link on your UChicago account pertaining to interviews. It’s under the Forms section, beneath the “2017 First Year Supplement” link.
@wuthering if I chose this interview option about one month ago will they contact me? Do you think because of ED that they won’t interview most EA applicants?
@johnwayne8321 I’m an EA applicant and I was offered an interview shortly after requesting. It’s simply a matter of whether an alumni in your area is available to interview you. Don’t worry.
I live in an area that most definitely has some UChi alumni, and I haven’t been contacted for an interview yet-- I requested one three weeks ago!! I applied EA. why am i not being contacted??
@nycgirl000 having uchicago alumni and having uchicago alumni who volunteer to conduct interviews are very different things.
@johnwayne8321 Yes, they contact you if there is an available alumna in your area. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though; I live in a large city, where there are sure to be at least one hundred alums, and wasn’t contacted for an interview for quite a long time. Either way, they won’t hold it against you whether you do or do not end up having one.
My daughter has her interview with alumna on 11/13, almost three weeks after we sent the request for off-campus alumni interview.
December is coming quickly…can’t wait to see the results. Do you guys think ED results will come earlier than EA, around 9th?
I expect ED results to come earlier than EA. For schools that offer EA, it makes sense to release them 5-7 days after other schools’ ED decisions so the EA school is notified about students that cannot attend.
Does anyone know when they are going to release the early action decisions??? I literally cannot wait another second. I just want to know my decision already!!! and @shanghai001 It seems that ED results are released about a week earlier than EA, so around the 9th seems like a reasonable guess. I know EA was released on December 18th last year, so that would make sense.
Not to throw water on anyone’s hopes for an “earlier-than-expected” decision, but they were still accepting application materials through Nov. 22nd. Not sure what that means for timing of a decision (not to mention what it means for students who hauled fanny to get their application in by 11/1) - but it doesn’t point to a quick turnaround. Also, from what I’m hearing and reading they have a LOT of applications this year! The USNews ranking probably helped, as did the ED option(s).
There do seem to be a couple of specialized programs like Questbridge that allow for a decision as early as later this week. Hopefully those students will post their results. For the rest of us, I’m predicting 12/16 at the earliest. If the ED’s are a week prior to the EA’s (a very reasonable assumption), we are looking at 12/23 for the latter. (Have no clue as to whether they release decisions on a Friday, on which both those dates happen to fall. It’s just a guesstimate).
Why would the addition of ED increase applications? I would have guessed it would have the opposite effect since i’s binding, or no effect since they kept EA as an option.
ED increases your chance of acceptance, and there are now more paths with a higher probability of acceptance. At least three that I can count: EDI, EDII, and EA-deferred-call-them-up-and-get-switched-to-EDII. That has to have a positive impact on applications because each applicant perceives that there are more opportunities to be given priority consideration than at other elite schools.
The reason I know there are a LOT of applications this year is that as alums we were told that and they extended the application materials deadline to Nov. 22nd.
im pretty sure the materials thing just means if they call you to notify you have something missing you have until nov 22 to submit the missing documents. It’s not necessarily an extension to throw in more supplements and stuff
@jasonfan1234 that is true; however, it means they are swamped and haven’t been updating the checklist as expected. We were told that the materials deadline would be about 10 days out from Nov. 1st. They were working all the way to Thanksgiving week just to get everyone notified about what’s missing. Taking a stab here but it appears they are a bit behind.
i may be incorrect, but i remember the nov 22 notification being on my account since November 1
@jasonfan1234. Interesting. It appeared on my D17’s sometime after Nov. 1st. In fact, we first noticed it around the time of the original materials deadline, because that’s when her checklist appeared. when did you submit? (my kid sent her application and materials in around the weekend prior to the deadline).
Even if applications are flat from - or lower than! - last year, the acceptance rate is going to be lower simply due to the introduction of ED (higher yield means lower acceptance rate). Not happy at all to think that applications might have gone up in the process!
