@hebegebe how do you recommend submitting the additional supplemental rec? Should tell them to directly email it to UChicago? Or should I upload it on my account by myself?
Sorry for so many questions but I’m trying to do my best. Thank you!
D submitted through the CommonApp. I don’t know if it is possible to do so through the Chicago account, but either that way or by email would be fine.
But only do this if you expect the recommendation to be both useful and highly positive. D’s was from a med school professor where she did research for two summers.
I’m hoping that my GPA and rank won’t hold me back by applying ED 2 (3.6ish UW with a top 12-15% rank). I spent about five months on my Chicago essays and told my admissions counselor of my health issues and family stability issues.
Also, best of luck to everyone applying!
I was deferred from UChicago and I will be also applying EDII! Hope that we could get in this time. I was not brave enough to apply EDI due to financial reasons, but my family is aware of my passion for UChicago and is supporting my decision.
This would probably be the most competitive pool ever.
I think that switching to ED II after getting deferred is going to look better than having just applied to ED II since they didn’t get it done earlier…? Also the fact that deferred people are still pushing for UChicago I think will look very, very good to them and I think that deferrals might have a leg up in the ED II pool.
@archilochus That’s exactly my situation, lol! I put that in my email to my adcomm and made it clear that’s literally the only reason I didn’t apply ED I. In my email to my adcomm as well, I made sure to outline things I’ve been doing in my senior year and how it relates to my potential life at UChi and why I think I would fit in there/ Why I’m still so interested in Uchicago over any other school.
@Sakura358 I think you should do it directly through your UChicago account. It says on the admissions page to not email them, but to upload it directly…not sure if that would hold for recommendations if you waived FERPA rights.
If I switch to ED2 can I alter my common app essay? My original one was a crap.
@tku980 i don’t think so…? It says don’t write any new essays (sadly). I’m in the same boat, I wish I could rewrite my CA essay. It’s not awful, but it’s probably my weakest link in otherwise pretty stellar essays.
Has anyway gotten emails back from their region counselor? Sent one a few days after decisions came out but still haven’t heard back.
@hirraine It is Holiday Break. Admissions officers probably did not have enough time to respond to all the emails they got before they took their well-deserved break to spend time with their families.
Don’t worry about it, they will get back to you.
@hirraine I got an email back on the same day
@hirraine I also got an email back, but I’ve heard they’ve been pretty sparse with emailing people back, but it is the holidays. I would say give them until the 4th since officially switching your application is ‘due’ the 6th.
@amwarren I actually got mine back recently. I assume you were originally deferred as well? If so, do you know when we should send in our email and extra materials by? I thought it was around January 31st, but my friend’s translation of the little blog post UChi posted was around this week.
@hirraine I know that we can keep uploading additional materials until the 31st, but the actual ED form we have to sign is due the 6th.
@hirraine, my D17 did. Guessing that it all depends on what area of the country and how many deferreds from that region are now opting for EDII. If you upload the agreement to your UChicago Account and have alerted your counselor then it’s probably only a matter of time before you hear back.
@amwarren, do we actually know that the 1/31 deadline for supplemental materials pertains to ED II? Got the impression that was for RD. ED II decisions come out much earlier. Did Admissions confirm that it’s ok to upload throughout January if you opt to go ED II?
@JBStillFlying I guess i’m not entirely sure…I remember reading that somewhere, but for the life of me now I cannot find out where I read that! I’ll keep looking
Also found out ED II is accept, deny, or waitlist and i swear if, after getting deferred, I get waitlisted I may just decompose.
