Argonne National Laboratory and Fermilab (both national laboratories managed by the University of Chicago) have particle accelerators that smash bits of atoms together at very high energies, allowing particles to emerge that are otherwise not part of the everyday world. These odd beastsZ bosons, pi mesons, strange quarkspopulated the universe seconds after the Big Bang, and allow their observers to glimpse the fabric of the universe.
Put two or three ideas or items in a particle accelerator thought experiment. Smash 'em up. What emerges? Let us glimpse the secrets of the universe newly revealed.

I have never written a college application essay, especially not one that would meet UChicago's standards. I've been reading around here on the CC boards, and have noticed many people say that UChicago really likes when a student is creative with their essay and takes a risk.

I suddenly got an idea on how to answer this prompt, so I quickly typed something up. Would anyone care to read it and tell me what they think about it? It's extremely short, and this is my first draft, so I'll definitely be fixing it up. Heck, I probably won't even use this for my app! I'd just like to get a general idea of what it is they're looking for.

Hiya, I can read it if you'd like. I'm a really strong personal essay writer and class of 09, but I visited UChicago and now am not interested in applying there at all (I'm more of a Columbia girl, I think.) So I can give it a read for you in a PM if you're interested. I also know a lot about particle accelerators and whatnot if that's relevant.

Please comment on what is the actual question behind the optional art/media essay for the university of Chicago. Can it be about a book, show, or movie? Do we have to describe the significance or something else. Please help.
