It says “In dollars, please indicate the amount that your parent(s) estimate they will contribute towards educational expenses for the 2018-19 academic year.” My parents would really like to contribute $0, so I am really not sure what to put here. My mom refuses to pay for my college and wants my dad to pay everything, and my dad doesn’t really wanna pay either but he will if it’s under $10,000 per year… and even then he said I will still have to pay for some. Do I put $10,000 as the answer? Will I get less aid if I put that?
Hopefully this is a complete misinterpretation of the situation but it sounds like your parents might be playing a game of chicken here. Of course the one who loses will be you. The easiest answer is to use the expected contribution of the parent whose tax return you are including along with your FAFSA. UChicago just requires the primary custodial or supportive parent to provide financial info (see below). If that’s your mom, then your best answer at this point is $0. In that case, your dad could potentially be on standby in order to help you out in an amount of up to $10,000 should there be a shortfall between what College FA comes up with for your contribution and what your mom is ultimately willing to contribute. Hopefully if you get accepted, both parties will put aside their differences and work together to help you out. Just in case that doesn’t happen, have a less expensive Plan B in your back pocket. Private school financing is stressful enough w/o the parents jockying to get the other to pay for it!
Good luck!
“Non-Custodial Parents
We do not require additional information from students’ non-custodial parent. In cases where the applicant’s parents are divorced or separated, provide financial information from the parent who has primary custody of or contributes more than 50% of the student’s financial support.”
This number means very little in your calculus for FA.
where can i find the link for uchicago free online financial aid worksheet? I already applied and have an account.
The University of Chicago Net Price Calculator
https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/calculate
If this is what your requesting.
@fbsdreams from uchicago financial aid webpage it says “To apply for need-based financial aid at the University of Chicago, you must submit a few documents that will allow us to most accurately review your family’s financial situation: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the UChicago Financial Aid Worksheet (or optional CSS Profile). You can access the UChicago Financial Aid Worksheet through your MyUChicago portal”. however, in my myuchicago portal i don’t find the css substitute worksheet. where is the link?
@lolpro2018 The UChicago Financial Aid Worksheet for UChicago Aid should be linked off of your portal under financial aid.
If you do not see a link, give the FA a call.
For my son, we just submitted the CSS since it was already completed for other institutions. college board - https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org
@fbsdreams Thanks for your help
Last year it was linked from the portal. Can’t remember how exactly but it was pretty obvious (because I noticed it). When are Fin. Aid. forms due? Are you applying EDII or RD as they have different deadlines.
@lolpro2018 - I have the same problem - no link to the worksheet. Did you figure it out?
@CValle After you log in your account @prospects.uchicago.edu, at the bottom of that webpage, you should see several links next to “Account Tools:” Click on the Technical Support to request for the worksheet. It may take a day or two for it to appear. Good luck.

Turns out we inadvertently checked the box for “not applying for financial aid” so none of the financial aid links were activated on my daughter’s account. All fixed now.
