UChicago Financial Aid

I got accepted to UChicago EA and its my top choice, but I am very worried about the financial aid becasue I want to stay away from loans as much as possible! I wanted to know if I could get an estimate on what my financial aid package would look like from you all, preferably a UChicago student with about the same stats? Thanks in advance!

Well, it looks like UChi puts loans in their FA packages…about 5500 per year. Don’t know if they have any income limits for loans. There could be another $2500 in work study and maybe a summer work contribution. The rest might be federal grands and school grants.

Isn’t UChi a CSS Profile school? If so, it’s hard to say exactly how much they’ll expect your family to pay. They may expect a similar family contribution as your EFC.

Unless UChi has a rule about not putting loans in the FA packages of low income students, there probably will be loans in the package each year.

Thanks for the information. I hope the scholarships I applied for pull through!

Didn’t UChi give you an estimate when you were accepted EA? That was the case several years ago when my son was admitted EA. The notice indicated that if updated CSS Profile information was significantly different than that used when the EA app was submitted, then the award would be different. Otherwise, you had a pretty good idea at the time of acceptance.

Unless things have changed, they don’t tell you about merit awards until the RD letters have gone out.

Well I did not know I had to submit my CSS profile when I applied EA, so I did not submit the CSS until January.

Also, when I called the financial aid office, they told me that I qualify for the Odyssey Scholarship, which would replace the 5,000 self help loans with the scholarship money. But, I would still have to contribute 4,000 a year (through work study and summer jobs)

AH! I do not want to work my freshman year…
